FDNY Crews Rescue Resident from Queens Fire; Five Firefighters Injured

Five firefighters were injured in the rescue of a resident early Thursday morning during a three-alarm fire in the Astoria neighborhood of Queens, according to news reports.

The Astoria Post reported that the fire occurred just before 1 a.m. at 23-11 23rd St. on May 25, 2023. Fire Department of New York (FDNY) firefighters rescued a man from heavy fire conditions in the rear of the home, the report said.

The victim was transported to an area hospital. According to ABC News 7, the victim, a 70-year-old person, was in critical condition

A Mayday was reportedly declared on the fireground, and five FDNY firefighters sustained unspecified injuries and were transported. The fire was extinguished at roughly 2:25 a.m.
