Evacuations Ordered as Close to 100 Firefighters Take on TN Wildfire

According to a report from WKRN, fire crews in Warren County, Tennessee, consisting of nearly 100 firefighters have been on scene fighting an intense wildfire beginning Monday evening and going early Tuesday morning.

The fire occurred just outside of the town of McMinnville in the area of Isha Lane off Highway 8.

Crews responded to reports of a man, Robert Vincent Halter, previously banned from the area who had set up a campfire. Warren County Sheriff’s Department (WCSD) officers, local volunteer fire departments, Tennessee Forestry Division, EMA, and EMS responded to the scene at around 2:30 p.m.

Halter has been arrested and was charged with reckless burning and criminal trespassing.

As of 7 p.m. Monday, the WCSD posted an update online stating more than 85 firefighters, 30 fire apparatus, and multiple bulldozers were on scene attempting to extinguish the flames. Fire departments from five surrounding counties also reported to the scene.

Fire officials said the fire is contained but not under control at this time.

On Tuesday morning, a sheriff recommended that all Isha and Curtistown residents evacuate the area immediately. The WCSD said anyone who remains in the area should be vigilant regarding their surroundings.

As of this time, a temporary shelter has been set up at the Harrison Ferry Fire Department for anyone fleeing the wildfire.

County Mayor Terry Bell is requesting a State of Emergency to obtain more resources to assist in the situation.
