Elderly Woman Dies, Frozen Hydrant Delays Operations at IL House Fire

According to a report from CBS2, an 81-year-old woman has died after succumbing to injuries sustained in a house fire in the Avalon Park neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, early Tuesday morning.

The fire erupted just before 2 a.m. in the 8200 block of Cornell Avenue. The Chicago Fire Department said they encountered a frozen hydrant, and escalated the alarm.

Firefighters removed the woman from the home with severe burns. She was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where she later died.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
