Underwriters Laboratories, an organization that tests and certifies firefighting equipment, now has the capability to test ground ladders for compliance with NFPA 1932, the Standard for Use, Maintenance, and Service Testing of Fire Department Ground Ladders.

This service is now available at local fire department locations through the Melville, NY, and Northbrook, IL, facilities. This additional service offers fire departments the opportunity to determine the condition of ground ladders, including those carried on pumpers, aerials, and other line vehicles.

In a major restructuring of its marketing operations, The Antenna Specialists Co. has named John J. Hurley as senior vice-president, a new position. In announcing the appointment, Antenna Specialists President Robert G. Paul related the move to the company’s substantial growth in both traditional business and new market areas in recent years.

Antenna Specialists has recently entered several market areas related to the land mobile and cellular businesses. These include: RF amplifiers and transmitter site accessories.

Hurley will have marketing management responsibility for all areas of the company’s business, which also includes consumer electronic accessories, Lifegard personnel distress devices, marine and avionic antennas, and amateur products.

Bob Fosbenner has been appointed national fire chassis representative for Mack Trucks Inc. He will report to Richard F. Murphy, vice-president of marketing distribution. In his new position, Mr. Fosbenner will be responsible for the marketing and sales effort of the 75-foot and 95-foot aerialscopes. He will coordinate and assist distributor and branch salesmen with presentations to major cities, municipalities, and volunteer fire departments.

In his 20 years with Mack, Mr. Fosbenner has been involved with fire apparatus engineering, and since 1968 he has been district manager of fire apparatus sales and district account executive. He can be reached atthe regional office in Allentown, PA.

James M. Smith has joined Kustom Electronics Inc. as vice-president of sales. Mr. Smith will be responsible for the sale of Kustom’s communications, microcomputer, and traffic safety radar products. He was previously district sales manager for Zenith Data Systems, a subsidiary of Zenith Electronics Corporation.

Kustom Electronics Inc. designs, produces, and markets voice and digital communications products, microcomputer peripheral products, and traffic safety radar products. Kustom’s products are distributed domestically and internationally in 27 countries. With the addition of Mr. Smith, a separate national and international sales operation is being established.

The Hale Fire Pump Company has added a dealer in central Texas to distribute its line of eight Hurst “Jaws of Life” rescue tools.

The dealer, located near Waco, is W.A. Neel. He can be contacted at P.O. Box 247, 200 N. FM 2114, West, TX 76691.

In addition to selling Hurst products, Neel will continue to provide factory service for fire trucks and the full line of fire equipment. Neel is the company’s second dealer in Texas, according to Robert Linster, Hale’s sales and marketing manager for the “Jaws of Life” tool.

Mack Trucks Inc. announces that Joseph W. James was elected to the company’s Board of Directors. James is the executive vicepresident of Household International, one of the nation’s largest multi-industry corporations with major businesses engaged in financial services, merchandising, manufacturing, and transportation.

James was president of National Car Rental System Inc., a Household International company, from 1973-1981. Prior to that, James was with the Chrysler Corporation for nearly 20 years.
