BREATHING AIR SYSTEMS has acquired O-RING & ASSOCIATES. Both companies specialize in supplying breathing air compressors, cascade systems, and related equipment to fire departments and industrial customers. Established in 1969, Breathing Air Systems is based in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, with branch offices in five states. The company is the largest seller of Bauer Compressors in the country, and is well-known for its expertise in custom air trucks and trailers. More than 2,500 fire departments in 10 states are enrolled in their preventive maintenance service and air analysis programs. E-ONE was recently awarded three Defense Logistics Agency contracts for eight trucks on behalf of the United States Air Force and the United States Navy. With a total value of more than $3.8 million, the contracts call for two explosive ordnance disposal units, four HP 75 aerials on E-ONE custom chassis, and two Titan Force 4 × 4 aircraft rescue fire fighting vehicles. CUMMINS INC.confirmed its support for greenhouse gas and fuel-efficiency standards for heavy- and medium-duty commercial vehicles and engines during its testimony at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) public hearing. The EPA and the NHTSA proposed rules to establish a comprehensive Heavy-Duty National Program, which from 2014 to 2018 would reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase fuel efficiency for on-road heavy-duty engines and vehicles. The EPA has proposed greenhouse gas emissions standards under the Clean Air Act, and the NHTSA has proposed equivalent fuel consumption standards under the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. www.cummins.com.

The UNITED STATES FIRE ADMINISTRATION (USFA)released its annual report on firefighter fatalities. Firefighter Fatalities in the United States in 2009 shows that last year, heart attacks remained the leading cause of line-of-duty firefighter deaths. The total number of fatalities in 2009 was one of the lowest totals in the 33 years USFA has conducted the annual analysis. Ninety on-duty firefighters from 33 states lost their lives as the result of incidents that occurred in 2009. Pennsylvania experienced the highest number of fatalities—eight. Of the 90 firefighters that died while on duty in 2009, 47 were volunteer, 36 were career, and seven were wildland agency firefighters.
