The Better Angels: The Firefighters of 9/11 exhibit traveled to the INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE CHIEFS conference in Atlanta. The exhibit was created by Colorado artist Dawn Siebel as a tribute to the 343 Fire Department of New York firefighters killed on 9/11 and features individual monochromatic oil portraits of the fallen firefighters on six x four-inch charred blocks of wood; the name of each firefighter and his company is written below. In 2009, Siebel and the NATIONAL FALLEN FIREFIGHTERS FOUNDATION (NFFF) partnered to bring the exhibit to a broader audience of firefighters and the public. The NFFF and Siebel are working on plans for Better Angels to appear in New York City for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. www.betterangels911.com.

SPARTAN CHASSIS, INC. hosted the Scott Firefighter Combat Challenge® (FCC). The twoday event brought out some of the best trained, most physically fit firefighters in North America to compete in the “toughest two minutes in sports.” Eighty individual and team participants dressed in full bunker gear and breathing apparatus raced against the clock to execute the extreme physical demands of firefighting. The event featured a linked series of five tasks including climbing a fivestory tower; hoisting; chopping; dragging hoses; and rescuing a lifesized, 175pound “victim.” Each year, the FCC attracts thousands of U.S. and Canadian municipal fire departments to more than 25 locations around the world, including New Zealand, Germany, Argentina, Chile, and South Africa. www.spartanchassis.com.
