IMAGETREND, INC. congratulated two of its state clients—Nebraska and New Jersey—on receiving awards at the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO) 2019 Annual Meeting abstract competition. Nebraska received 2nd place, while New Jersey received honorable mention. The Nebraska abstract, titled “Refusals of Care for EMS Injury-Related Incidents in Nebraska: Characteristics and Correlates,” considered data for patients that refused either care and/or transportation by emergency medical services (EMS) when there was a suspected injury. The New Jersey abstract, titled “Pre-hospital Refusal of Treatment or Transport: Characteristics for New Jersey Naloxone Administration Incidents,” examined data related to patients who had received naloxone, but also refused additional care and/or transportation by EMS. www.imagetrend.com.

SPARTAN EMERGENCY RESPONSE showcased the Moyers Corners Spartan Rescue Pumper, including its safety-first design at the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs (NYSAFC) and Expo in Syracuse, New York. The Spartan rescue pumper, “Engine 32,” was recently added to the Moyers Corners (NY) Fire Department’s emergency response fleet. SUTPHEN CORPORATION delivered six firefighting apparatus to the Columbus (OH) Division of Fire (CDF). The six recently delivered apparatus include five custom pumpers which will be operating out of CDF stations 10, 12, 13, 20, and 26. The order also includes one SPH 100 mid-mount aerial platform, which will operate out of station 26. Each apparatus was specifically manufactured for the CDF and its unique Midwest firefighting needs. Features of the five custom pumpers include a Sutphen Extreme-Duty Monarch Custom Chassis, 10-inch Double Domex frame rails rated up to 110K psi, Cummins X12 455-hp engines, and 550-gallon water tanks. www.sutphen.com/deliveries.

BEN RIGNEY was named the new chief of West Manatee (FL) Fire Rescue (WMFR). Rigney, who will begin in the position on October 17, 2019, succeeds retiring Chief Tom Sousa. WMFR promoted Sousa, a 43-year fire service veteran, to chief in April 2014 after serving as a WMFR training captain and Longboat Key, Florida, firefighter. Rigney has served 13 years with WMFR and has a master’s degree. Among Rigney’s first priorities on taking the job will be the oversight involved in building a new administrative office/westside operation center.

 

BRAD LIGGETT accepted the chief’s position at the Freeport (IL) Fire Department (FFD). Liggett previously served as the Beloit (IL) Fire Department’s chief for the past 16 years, where he has worked for more than 30 years. He stated that he is leaving Beloit to be closer to his family. Liggett began his new position with the FFD on July 8.

 

TIFFANY D. GREEN was named as the Prince George’s County (MD) Fire and EMS Department’s (PGFD’s) first-ever black female chief. Green was previously the department’s chief deputy. She will replace former chief Benjamin Barksdale, who is retiring on November 1, 2019. Green began her career as a firefighter with the PGFD in March 1999 after serving as a volunteer for the Oxon Hill (MD) Volunteer Fire Department.

 

RON COOKSTON was named as the new chief for the Fountain Valley (CA) Fire Department (FVFD). Cookston replaces former chief Tony Coppolino, who stepped down on June 28 after leading the FVFD for six years. Cookston began his career as a reserve firefighter in Santa Ana, California, and moved on to the FVFD as a fire prevention and suppression reserve in 1991. He has since held every sworn position in the department including paramedic, engineer, captain, paramedic coordinator, training captain and battalion chief. One of Cookston’s priorities as the new fire chief is public education.
