The NATIONAL FIRE PROTECTION ASSOCIATION’s Firewise Communities program announced the 2010 Firewise Leadership Award winners, recognizing the most significant local efforts in safeguarding people and communities from the threat of wildfire. Winners were selected based on their impact at the local, statewide, and regional levels. More than 20 ribbon cutters dedicated the ILLINOIS FIRE SERVICE INSTITUTE’s (IFSI’s) new Learning Resource and Research Center at IFSI’s 27-acre training grounds. The more than 21,000-square foot building houses new IFSI capabilities that includes a library, firefighter memorial hall, international conference center, incident management training facility, high-speed Web connectivity, and firefighter life safety research center. The library has more than 18,000 items in its multimedia collection and is the only fire service dedicated library in Illinois.
