Dallas Reduces Arson

Arson fires in Dallas were reduced by 33percent in 1978 and another 6-percent in 1979, according to statistics recently released by the Insurance Information Institute and the Dallas Arson and Fire Investigation Division.

In addition, arson arrests increased from 26.7-percent of all arson fires in 1978 to 32.5-percent in 1979. Credit for these figures has been given largely US a mass media campaign launched in August 1977 entitled “Burn an Arsonist for Cold Cash.” Through the program, a $5000 reward fund has been established for information leading to the conviction of arsonists. The program has been publicized on billboards, in newspaper articles, on radio and TV spots.

San Antonio had an 11-percent reduction in arson after implementing the program in 1978.

The EMT and Paramedic Society of New Jersey was formed in 1980 and is headquartered in Kenilworth. Other officers include First Vice-President Vince Shackley, Second Vice-President David Frank, Executive Secretary Frank Gelormini, and Recording Secretary Barbara Eiler. Three additional members from four regions of the state complete the board of directors.
