Mayday: Collapse, Cleveland Firefighters Injured in Fire

A Cleveland (OH) firefighter sustained serious injuries in a fire Monday, May 6, 2024, after a porch collapse. Multiple victims were also reportedly rescued from the fire in the 3600 block of West 102 street.

A member of Engine 33 was reportedly trapped and rescued after a porch collapsed at the scene of a fire in an occupied home. A Mayday was declared on scene, according to reports on the X social media platform, and the firefighter was rescued and transported with serious injuries.

Another firefighter was also transported with a shoulder injury, the Cleveland Fire Department reported on X, and several civilians were removed from the building, including a mother and her two children. A male who entered to try and save a child, was also transported; the department said a Good Samaritan who had been driving to work past the incident went into the structure twice to save an 11-month-old baby. The civilians were reportedly in stable condition.

The fire is under investigation, but a subsequent update from the department noted that its was apparently accidental and attributed it to an electrical issue.
