Chicago Firefighter Needs Your Help

Fourteen-year-old Emilia Moreno, daughter of Lt. Carlos Moreno of the Chicago (IL) Fire Department suffered a fractured skill, a fractured collarbone, and dozens of stitches as the result of being struck by a car on April 24 while on her way to do volunteer work at St. Mary’s Home for the Mentally Retarded. She was in a coma and has suffered brain injuries. She has been treated at various hospitals and, according to Charles E. Sisung, M.D., director of the Pediatric and Adolescent Rehabilitation Program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, “It is anticipated that Emilia will require a prolonged therapy program with evidence of improved response intervention …”

Members of the Chicago Fire Department and other supporters of the family are attempting to raise funds to help the family with the extraordinary medical expenses needed for Emilia’s care. For those in the area, a benefit will be held on Saturday, September 22, from 8:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. It will be at the Lakeshore Athletic Club, 1320 West Fullerton Avenue, Chicago.

Contributions to The Fund for Emilia (Emily) Moreno may be sent to the Community Savings Bank, 4801 W. Belmont Ave., Chicago, IL 60641.
