A spectacular, wind-driven fire burned out of control for more than three hours in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn, New York on Tuesday evening, March 29.
Fire Department of New York (FDNY) companies were called to the scene on Dekalb Avenue near Wilson Street just after 10:00pm to find a roaring fire in the rear of an attached wood-framed dwelling.
The blaze quickly spread to similar adjoining wooden structures and eventually entered the cockloft; rapidly spreading to three buildings.
FDNY companies from around the cty were summoned to the scene asmultiple alarms were being struck.
More than 200 firefighters were eventually put to work in an effort to bring the incident under control. More than 70 residents were displaced and Red Cross representatives were assisting with relocation.
Only minor injuries were reported for both civilians and firefighting members.
