Bowling alley fire

A wood, bow string truss roof; large, open, unsupported areas; and a heavy fire load contributed to the complete destruction of an 11,250square-foot bowling alley, The fire, which had its origins in an electrical short, had gone undetected after the bowling alley closed for the night.
Pressure from the fire in the closed-up structure was released by the fracture of an enclosed window. The inrush of needed oxygen completed the classic conditions for backdraft, and as the fire department arrived at the scene, the resulting explosion indicated a complete structural loss.
