Bell Returns to Anaheim

Bell Returns to Anaheim

A cast-iron bell rang again in Anaheim, Calif., as Fire Marshal Charles Kanenbley revealed the historical marker of early city history in a ceremony last August 17.

Originally activated in 1871 to alert volunteers to a fire, the bell was silenced in the 1940s as the victim of more modern approaches to fire alarms. The Anaheim Fire Fighters Association donated labor and funds to mount the ancient clanger in a garden in front of the Headquarters Station, complete with a bronze historical identification plate.
