Arsonist Arrested After Setting Multiple Fires at TX Senior Living Facility

According to a report from CBSAustin, a man was arrested Tuesday morning after being accused of setting several fires at a senior living apartment complex in northeast Austin, Texas.

The Austin Fire Department (AFD) was dispatched to the Harris Branch 55+ apartments at 12433 Dessau Road at around 4:30 a.m. for a fire on the third floor of the building. On arrival, AFD crews discovered several fires being controlled by the sprinkler system, allowing crews to extinguished the flames quickly.

The AFD also notified the Austin Police Department because a resident was seen “in his underwear” while starting the fires. According to residents, the suspect had been an issue in the past; he was subsequently arrested and is now in custody.

No injuries have been reported, and an unknown number of residents have been displaced. AFD officials said two apartments were suffered damage and the hallways are cleared.

AFD crews are now helping remove the water that was released by the sprinklers.
