APPARATUS DELIVERIES

The Anniston (AL) Fire Department uses this AMERICAN LAFRANCE rescue truck as an advanced life support (ALS) vehicle, according to Assistant Chief David Collins. The unit can respond as an ALS or a basic life support (BLS) engine and also provides positive pressure ventilation and rapid intervention team support at structure fires.

  • FORD F-550 chassis with 189-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • FORD 6.0 L V-8 turbo diesel engine with automatic transmission;
  • 14-foot nonwalk-in body with POK roll-up compartment doors;
  • WARN 4.5-ton portable winch with front and rear receivers;
  • AMKUS rescue tools; and
  • light and power with AURAGEN 8.5-kw engine-powered generator, two FRC telescoping floodlights, six WHELEN fixed scene lights on body, and one HANNAY electric cord reel.


The Royalston (MA) Fire-EMS Department uses its RESCUE 1 unit primarily to respond to medical and trauma calls, explains Captain Gary Winitzer. The vehicle is also equipped for extrication, remote, high-angle, and ice rescue response.

The Coolsprings Township Fire Department in Michigan City, Indiana, designed this HME pumper as a dual-purpose unit because of limited personnel availability, according to Assistant Chief Anthony Pavlak. The unit can respond as a first-out engine and as a rescue pumper.

  • GORTITE roll-up compartment doors and four wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;

The Sierra Blanca Regional Airport in Ruidoso, New Mexico, uses this CRASH RESCUE EQUIPMENT SERVICE unit for aircraft firefighting. Emergency Response Chief Russell B. Shearer says the apparatus is enhanced by CAFS, which can handle any job, but the department is limited to structure and wildland firefighting, unless incident is aviation-related (in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration rules and regulations).

The Pennington (NJ) Fire Department designed its ROSENBAUER rescue pumper with a higher pump capacity and more storage space than its predecessor, according to Chief Stewart Schwab. The apparatus responds first-out to extrications, vehicle fires, and haz mats and second-out to structure fires.

In Reynoldsburg, Ohio, the Ohio State Fire Academy uses its PIERCE pumper for all firefighting and CAFS classes both on- and off-site, according to Equipment Technician John Hopkins.

Because of a station consolidation plan, the Hudson (NY) Fire Department replaced a rescue truck and two engines with this KME pumper, according to Chief Tim Hutchings. This pumper is first-out on haz-mats, decon, and water rescue; it also pulls a rescue team trailer. It is second-out for all fire-related calls and is the FAST truck for mutual aid.

The Bakersfield (CA) Fire Department has in service this rescue unit built by SVI TRUCKS. Battalion Chief Gary Hutton says it was designed to meet US&R medium-duty requirements.

The Orlando (FL) Fire Rescue Department has in service this SUTPHEN pumper. Public Information Officer Amanda M. Holley says it was designed for general firefighting and EMS response.
