Apparatus Deliveries

The Hilbert (WI) Fire Department designed this MARION BODY WORKS truck to carry staffing and for rehab (and features climate control for these reasons), explains Second Assistant Chief Mark Fochs. The unit also responds to structure fires, motor vehicle accidents, mutual aid, as a rapid intervention team, and to Calumet County dive team calls.

Features/Equipment:

  • FREIGHTLINER m2 106 chassis with 210-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 330-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • 19-foot combination rescue body (walk-in and walk-around) with walk-through between cab and body and six SCBA seats;
  • AMDOR roll-up compartment doors;
  • Four-bottle air cascade system with eight spare SCBA cylinders in wheel wells;
  • PHYSIO CONTROL AED; and
  • light and power with an ONAN 25-kw PTO-driven generator, nine-kw COMMAND LIGHT, and WHELEN scene lights on body.

The LaPorte (CA) Fire Department protects an old mining community with a small business district. The small population increases during the summer months with vacationers. Chief Steve Burroughs says the department features a small response staff, so to enhance fire attack capabilities, it relies on its MIDWEST pumper’s large water tank and Class “A” foam.

Features/Equipment:

  • FREIGHTLINER m2 106 chassis with a 216-inch wheelbase and two-seat cab;
  • DARLEY LSP single-stage, 1,000-gpm pump with a FOAM PRO 1600 system, a 4½-inch front intake with six-inch adapter, three crosslays (two 1½-inch and one 2½-inch), and an ELKHART Vulcan deck gun;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 350-hp diesel engine with an ALLISON 3000 EVS automatic transmission;
  • APR 2,000-gallon water tank with three 10-inch NEWTON dump valves (left, right, and rear) with 36-inch telescoping chutes, and a 2½-inch direct fill;
  • MIDWEST portable water tank carrier for a 2,100-gallon FOL-DA-TANK;
  • ROM roll-up compartment doors and two wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • ONSPOT tire chains; and
  • a portable HONDA five-kw gasoline generator and four WHELEN scene lights.

The city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, sits at the end of the Massachusetts Turnpike, which has a corridor that prohibits hazardous cargo. Cambridge Fire Department Deputy Chief Gerard Mahoney says one of the department’s two PIERCE pumpers with foam system and large tank responds for an engine company stationed along the truck route that bypasses this corridor, where hazardous materials can travel.

Features/Equipment:

  • Enforcer chassis with 181-inch wheelbase with 10-inch raised roof cab with five seats, frontal air bags, and an EMS cabinet;
  • CUMMINS ISL 9 400-hp diesel engine with ALLISON 30009 EVS automatic transmission;
  • enhanced pump-and-roll capability;
  • UPF 500-gallon water and 250-gallon foam tanks;
  • PIERCE PUC single-stage, 1,250-gpm pump with Husky 12 foam system, three crosslays (two 1¾-inch and one 2½-inch), and an AKRON Fire Fox front bumper turret and AKRON Hi-Riser deck gun midship;
  • AMDOR roll-up compartment doors and two triple wheel well sleeves for spare SCBA cylinders;
  • ZOLL AED; and
  • lighting with WHELEN scene lights and a GOLIGHT on the cab roof.
