Anatomy and Physiology the Yoga Way

By Claire Diab and Dennis Boyle

Over the next two months we will learn about our beautiful body and get a better understanding of how it works…The Yoga Way.  We will explore all 11 systems of the body: the Integumentary System, Nervous System, Skeletal System, Endocrine System, Muscular System, Cardiovascular System, Lymphatic System, Respiratory System, Urinary System, Reproductive System, and Digestive System.   All 11 systems work in perfect balanced harmony without you having to ask them to do so!

Did you know that you have 650 muscles and 206 bones in your body? Every time you take a single step forward you use approximately 200 muscles? Here are some more amazing facts:

  • Your heart pumps almost 2,000 gallons of blood a day!
  • The blood vessels (veins, arteries, capillaries) in your body would wrap around the planet earth 2½ times!
  • Your intestinal tract is 26-28 feet long, about the length of a large room!

Who Knew? We will continue to explore and learn about this magnificent “machine” we call our body. It is truly a miracle!
