ZOLL Data Systems introduces incident-based CAD

ZOLL Data Systems, Inc., a subsidiary of ZOLL Medical Corporation (NasdaqGS: ZOLL), announced the launch of RescueNet CommCAD, an incident-based computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system for fire/EMS organizations that can help them operate more efficiently.

The system leverages a Windows®-based platform that is designed to meet the security, reliability, interoperability, and scalability requirements of public safety organizations. RescueNet CommCAD is a key component of RescueNet, an integrated suite of solutions designed to maximize business performance.

ZOLL Data Systems has provided a trip-based CAD solution for EMS organizations since 1995 and has hundreds of EMS customers nationwide. With this experience in developing CAD solutions for EMS organizations, they identified a need for an incident-based CAD solution to meet the unique requirements of fire/EMS organizations. They also recognized a trend in the industry of fire and EMS organizations merging operations. There are many CAD solutions for the public safety market that were developed for PSAPs (Public Safety Answering Points) that offer dispatch services for the multi-agency world – fire, EMS and law enforcement. However, RescueNet CommCAD was built to focus on the needs of fire/EMS organizations exclusively.

“Fire and EMS crews need to get on-scene fast. And RescueNet CommCAD’s map-based interface provides a bird’s-eye view of the incident so they can get to the scene in minimum time,” said David Brown, president of ZOLL Data Systems. “With a user-friendly interface, training time can be reduced dramatically, which results in substantial cost savings,” he continued.

For many PSAPs, CAD systems are the end-all of a communication center’s technology. Yet many dispatch managers wonder whether today’s CAD systems are becoming too complicated. This is why ease-of-use is so important to consider, but it’s only one thing that should be considered when evaluating a CAD system. The system should be the center of integration and interoperability as a decision support hub. Functionality, design and configurability are user needs that must be considered, along with security and reliability. The operation of today’s public safety communications centers is dependent upon information and the ability to manage it. That requirement, in turn, depends heavily upon CAD software.

“We’re thrilled with ZOLL Data Systems and RescueNet CommCAD’s map-centric interface, which reduced training efforts and got our team up and running quickly. We were particularly impressed with how they worked closely with us to understand the unique aspects of our operation. RescueNet CommCAD is going to be a huge asset to us in dispatching our EMS and fire services. We think it’s critical to work with a company that can provide a full suite of solutions for public safety,” said Jim Judge, executive director at Lake Sumter EMS in Florida.

“We think RescueNet CommCAD will redefine how customers evaluate and use CAD systems. CommCAD is built on a platform of scalability and reliability that is unmatched in our industry. In addition, we have introduced the latest in user-interface design that will provide our customers with a new and easier way of entering their data and doing their jobs,” said David Brown.

RescueNet CommCAD will be introduced at the FDIC 2007 conference in Indianapolis on April 19-21 at booth #1623, and at the Navigator 2007 conference in Las Vegas on April 24-26 at booth #510.
