Turnout Gear Rack

Turnout Gear Rack

An inexpensive protective clothing rack constructed primarily of scrap materials has been designed by Chief Rollan K. Eberhard of the Whitewater, Kan., Fire Department.

The frame, which is 6 feet long, was made from 3/4-inch galvanized pipe salvaged from a remodeled store. The wooden helmet rack is on a 45-degree angle for easy access, and is 8 feet long. The boot rack, also 8 feet long, has 4-inch wooden pegs, allowing boots to hang upside down. Wooden pegs made of %-inch dowels permit gloves to dry.

The rack pictured holds 8 sets of turnout gear. Cooperation from the local hardware store aided in cutting and threading pipe.
