TN Firefighter Invents Device to Keep Cool

An East Tennessee firefighter has invented a device to help his colleagues stay cool and safe, reports WBIR-TV Knoxville (http://on9news.tv/ImY0XI).

While fighting a house fire and brush fire last fall, a colleague of Michael Robinson Sr. collapsed from heat exhaustion. This incident led Robinson to research rehab techniques. From his studies, the “HeatSeeker” was created.

His device is a mist cap that fits onto a water discharge pipe on a fire truck, hose, hydrant or portable unit to help firefighters lower their core temperatures.

Nearly 50 mist caps have been sold to fire departments across the country and the device will be featured in Popular Science magazine’s June issue.
