Regulators Recalled On 1964-1968 Units of Scott Air-Pak II

Scott Air-Pak II breathing apparatus manufactured from 1964 through 1968 are the subject of a recall notice from Scott Aviation.

The company has determined that an abnormal condition may exist in some cast aluminum bodies used in Air-Pak II regulators. Scott reports that a small number of fractures in the alarm mounting area of the regulator bodies have been found. They are believed to be caused by “stress corrosion due to external corrosive elements of moisture .in the air supply or by overtorquing the high pressure air inlet,” according to Scott.

No injuries have been reported as a result of this condition in these regula_____ors, which have been in service for many years, Scott said. However, the company warned: “Personal injury or life threatening loss of air may be possible should a failure occur.”

Users are being urged to remove from service all Air-Pak II regulators manu_____actured prior to 1969 and contact their Scott distributor or Scott Aviation for full information on this recall program.

All Scott Air-Pak II regulators manufactured from 1969 to present use a forged regulator body and are not a concern, according to Scott.
