PORTABLE DC GENERATOR

Active Technologies Inc. has begun marketing its new portable DC generator. The “Lightning Charger” weighs 15 pounds and produces 55 amps at 12 volts. It is equipped with a twin 115-volt DC outlet, designed to allow operators to run emergency lighting as well as handheld power tools.

CHIMNEY FIRE EXTINGUISHER

The 11-inch, 5‘/4-pound, aluminum Chimney Snuffer from Jaflrey, designed to be operated by one firefighter, cuts conventional chimney fire knockdown time by one-half. It attaches to a booster line or reinforced garden hose. Eight nozzles spray 2⅛ quarts per minute at 60 psi. Its torpedo shape penetrates creosote buildup.

HME Inc.’s 1871 Series of aluminum tilt-cab chassis offers new construction materials in addition to a new look. Zetron’s Model 4018 Desktop Console can be used to create an operator position in a Zetron Series 4000 radio console system. The self-contained system features built-in speakers, pager encoder, and 60 programmable function keys. When incorporated into the console system, it allows the operator to monitor and control up to 24 radio basestations and telephone lines.

The Series 4200 intercom system from David Clark Company, Inc., allows users to pick and choose from an assortment of features to design anything from a simple, streamlined system to the elaborate layouts needed to accommodate 20 users on an intricate system. HOSE AND CYLINDER STRAPS

Milwaukee Strap Inc.’s 100and 50-foot hose strap holds 50, 100, or 150 feet of 1 ¾-inch hose. The strap consists of two Velcro® closures, interconnected by a stiff nylon spine. The hose remains organized for rapid deployment. Also available is the Cyli-Strap, which enables the user to carry two compressed air cylinders by looping each end over the valve of a cylinder.

VARIABLE VOLUME CONTROL HEADSET

Earmark, Inc., has introduced the Series IV Headset with external, variable volume control and self-adjusting VOX system, allowing the user to adjust incoming volume with a turn of the knob without worrying about environmental noise flooding the network. Located behind the receiver earcup, the volume control rotary swatch is large enough to control with a gloved hand. Self-adjusting VOX 130 system reacts only to the user’s voice. These new’ features are built into the frames of noise-reducing earmuffs (rated 23 NRR); two 9V batteries power the headsets for up to 80 hours.

WATER OUTPUT TEST UNIT

KETEMA/McCrometer has unveiled the VeriFire, a portable test unit designed to measure the water output capacity of pumper trucks. Bolted directly to the pumper’s discharge lines and powered by a self-contained electronics system, the impeller-based meter measures flow rate over a range of 50 to 125 gpm within +/two percent of the actual flow rate. Over a range of 125 to 800 gpm, accuracy yields are +/one percent.

Tempest Controlled Airstreams has introduced a line of pow’er smoke machines for creating realistic training smoke. The Tempest model 1500 power smoker produces 1,500 cfm; the model 4500 produces 4,500 cfm for producing large volumes of smoke. Streamlight, Inc., has introduced the SL20XP, a lighter version of its popular SI.-20X rechargeable flashlight. The SL-20XP weighs one pound (half the weight of the SL-20X) and has a nonslip, foam comfort grip. Its eight-watt halogen lamp delivers a beam of up to 25.000 eandlepower for up to 85 minutes, using a high-capacity 5 sub-C rechargeable nickel-cadmium battery.

RESCUE SYSTEMS

Grip Safety and Rescue Systems Corporation has developed the new Griptech Rescue Systems. For confined space entry and rescue, the GripTech BP1 system offers an automatic fall arrester that constantly senses rope speed while lowering and automatically locks when a certain descent speed is reached. For high-angle rescue, SP Higli Angle Rescue Systems feature standard 3:1 lifting advantage and utilize removable, split pulleys. Options are available, including the Flaul-Lock, which allows raising/lowering of the load when disengaged and prevents the load from descending between hauls when engaged.

Survivair offers a pressure-demand supplied air respirator (SAR) featuring an improved pigtail that more effectively attaches to the harness to reduce tugging and straining on the facepiece.
