PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT RENTAL SERVICE

CAIRNS RENT is a service provided to municipal and industrial fire departments by Cairns and Brother in cooperation with Southern Laboratory. For a daily rental fee, departments can rent Cairns 660C. Metro or 662C Metro II helmets, Pbi ‘VKevlar® protective hoods, bunker coats and pants, and NFPA-approved boots for their fire school attendees. An on-site coordinator will ensure proper fit, make necessary adjustments, and collect equipment at the end of the course.

FLEET DATA COLLECTION SYSTEM

Hand Held Ventures, Inc., has introduced the in-vehicle SmartTRACK”‘ DCS-100 unit for capturing and storing data such as vehicle operating times, lights and siren usage, speed, distance traveled, idling time, and three-minute speed history in the event of an accident. The stored data are transferred from each vehicle with the DTU-120 data transfer system to a standard personal computer that organizes, analyzes, and reports data to the fleet operator.

GAS DETECTOR UPGRADES

Upgrades are available to AIM Safety USA/AIM Safety Company, Inc.’s newest handheld computerized gas detectors in the LOGIC Series (one-, two-, and three-sensor models) and the LOGIC 500 Series (threeand four-sensor models in the shape of a box). The FIREFLY* 11 PASS Alarm from Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA) complies with the 1993 edition of NFPA-1982, the newly revised performance standard for PASS systems; it has passed tests relevant to that standard, including those that ensure it will not be set off unintentionally if contacted by falling debris or water. It also is able to distinguish between minimal motion and no motion at all. The FIREFLY II weighs less than six ounces without battery and can be clipped to a firefighter’s turnout gear.

LIGHT FIRE/EMS VEHICLES LUBRICATION UNIT

Vogel Lubrication, Inc., has introduced the KFK-4, a lubrication system geared specifically for light fire apparatus and EMS vehicles and consisting of a lubrication unit equipped with a gear pump, grease cartridge, metering distributor and control unit, and lubrication lines. The KFK-4 lubricates a maximum of 12 points with typical applications averaging six points. The centralized lubrication system can be individually supplied for all vehicle types in the form of an installation kit with detailed instructions. ‘Installation usually takes between two and four hours.

RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM

Survivair is marketing a radio communication system that enables workers wearing full face masks to communicate with each other or with a base station via two-way radio. A small bidirectional microphone is easily installed inside a prepunched face piece lens and a speaker (rated at 70 db output) on an adjustable boom attached to either side of the lens rim assembly. It has been approved by NIOSH for use on Survivair Mark 2 SCBAs, SARs, and full face APRs.

Industrial Scientific Corporation has introduced the LTX310 multigas monitor, which can be reconfigured for one-, two-, or threegas detection. It is classified as intrinsically safe or pending classification for use in Class I and Class II locations.
