Humpday Hangout: Blocking Engines…What Is Stopping You?

One of the more dangerous places for firefighters to operate is on roadways, and there have been numerous recent fatalities involving responders who are struck during extrication and rescue operations. Some departments have designated specific apparatus–blocking engines–to help protect members working on the road. In this week’s Humpday Hangout, Terry McGrath talks with his guests about such programs and other steps departments may employ to help increase safety during roadway operations.

Guests:

Scott Thompson, Fire Chief, The Colony (TX) Fire Department
Victor Conley, Fire Chief, Irving (TX) Fire Department
Bret Stidham, Asst. Fire Chief, Dallas Fire Rescue
