Hofman Receives 2012 Thomas S Waller Scholarship

Adam Hofman, a junior majoring in fire protection and safety technology (FPST) at Oklahoma State University (OSU) in Stillwater, is the 2012 recipient of the Thomas S. Waller Memorial Scholarship. The $3000 scholarship is presented annually to a junior or senior level FPST student at OSU possessing outstanding work ethic both in and out of the classroom, academic excellence, community leadership, and involvement in school activities.

Hofman, a Fort Morgan, Colo. native, is described as “intelligent, responsible and hard-working” and “a great well-rounded leader” by professors. His extracurricular activities include: membership in the Fire Protection Society, OSU Combat Challenge Team, Lutheran Student Fellowship, Reformed University Fellowship, OSU Marching Band, and One In Four. He also serves as a resident advisor at OSU and an administrations intern for the Stillwater Fire Department, and he has maintained a 3.5 GPA at OSU.

Hofman earned the rank of Eagle Scout the summer before his junior year in high school and says that his participation in the Boy Scouts had a tremendous impact in shaping who he is.

Now entering its seventh year, the Thomas S. Waller Memorial Scholarship recognizes excellence in academics and leadership. Awarded annually to OSU fire protection students who meet the scholarship criteria for excellence, the Waller Scholarship is administered through the Center for Life Safety Education (CLSE), a nonprofit educational organization recognized under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Code. As an educational affiliate of the American Fire Sprinkler Association, CLSE provides college scholarships for degrees in fire protection, continuing education and training for Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and the fire service, and testing and certificate programs for specialties within the fire sprinkler industry. Funding for the Waller Scholarship is provided through the generous donations of leaders in the fire protection profession who recognize importance of educating the industry’s future leaders. Tax-deductible donations to the Waller Scholarship fund can be made securely online at www.clse.org, or mailed to CLSE, 12750 Merit Drive, Suite 350, Dallas, TX 75251.
