Emergency Lights

Teledyne Big Beam has introduced an addition to its emergency lighting systems, known as the RSC6G series of recessed emergency lights.

This unit contains a sealed 6 volt battery system that gives 1 1/2 to 6 hours of continuous light. During power failure, the unit automatically floods public areas with two to five lamps. All use 6 volt PAR 36 sealed floodlight bulbs, and can be used with 120 or 277 VAC systems. They may be mounted in regular ceilings or walls. After discharge, a multiple rate silicon solid-state integrated circuit charger automatically recharges and maintains the battery at full capacity.

Backboards

Junkin Safety Appliance Company has introduced two backboards made of ¾ inch weatherproof marine plywood finished with two coats of varnish. Both models incorporate hand cut-outs for easy handling of the patient. Four patient restraint straps are standard equipment on the full length model and two straps on the half length.

Fire Alarm Panels

Model ZA class A and model ZB class B fire alarm zone panels have been introduced by Kidde & Co., Inc. The panels are used for zone annunciation and control in units of four zones each in the Kidde MA-2400 fire alarm system. Other system elements include a power supply and control panel.

The new ZA panel features automatic class A line conditioning and supervised output circuits by zone. Cross zone operations and zone trouble indication are offered along with remote alarm and trouble outputs plus lamp supervision and testing capability.

Voice Alert Pager

Federal Signal Corporation’s Signal Division has introduced a pocket pager that operates in the 30-50 MHz range.

This solid-state pager is housed in a highimpact polycarbonate case. An optional two-position switch permits the listener to monitor the channel. With the switch in position two, the listener will first hear a series of beeps transmitted by a tone encoder.

Automatic Pump Governor

Fire Research Corporation announces its front-mount Automatic Electro Governor, which regulates pump pressures from 0 to 300 psi. The operator dials in the required pressure and the pump operates at this pressure within seconds and holds the pressure regardless of flow changes. Engines idle if the pump runs out of water. Made of all solid-state construction, it can be mounted anywhere on the vehicle. Wired or radio remote control is available.

Transfer Valve

The Waterous Company has announced a transfer valve that eliminates the difficult operation encountered in cylinder or plugtype transfer valves. The new transfer valve is a standard feature of its model CM twostage pumps.

The transfer valve is of ball-type construction and features a self-cleaning seal arrangement limits internal leakage.

Hood

A non-insulated aluminized hood is being offered by Fyrepel Products, Inc. Standard features include a lift front 8X13 inch facepiece and multilayered drape with vapor barrier and wool lining. It is a hard cap with welders faceshield suspension.

The facepiece may be either Plexiglas or Plexiglas with heat-reflective gold. The outer surface materials available include asbestos, APFR rayon, and 6 ounce Nomex. This style hood may be ordered with or without a lining and vapor barrier.

Protective Gloves

Janesville Apparel Company has introduced a glove made from Kevlar, a fabric used for bulletproof vests. The glove provides slash and puncture protection, as well as thermal protection. The leather portion has been treated to withstand the temperature of a blow torch without shrinking or hardening. The glove remains flexible and can be washed repeatedly.

Ladders

Duo Safety has introduced a line of solidbeam aluminum ladders in 40,45, and 50-foot lengths. Series 1500A has 1 ¼ X 5 inch beams for extra load capacity and safety and all ladders come with tormentors. The 6061-T6 extruded rails and rungs are made of aluminum and the rungs are welded and expanded to the beams, The ladders have tongue and groove internal guides and spring-loaded lock assemblies. All hardware is zinc-plated steel. Spurs are standard and rubber safety shoes are optional for hard surface use.

Helmets

A new helmet, designed by the United States Army Natick Research and Development Command, is being produced by Cairns & Brother, Inc. The new model features Nomex ear flaps and a polycarbonate face shield. An energy-absorbing foam lining covering the circumference of the head provides side and tangential impact protection. Weighing less than 40 ounces, the helmet satisfies the safety helmet requirements established by the American Institute (ANSI), as well as the impact protection requirements set forth by ANSI for motorcycle helmets.

Smoke Detector

An ionization detection system which uses AC or a standby battery has been introduced by Ultra Electronics, Inc.

Model POC-1, Early Alert, operates on 110-120V, or on two 9-volt batteries. The manufacturer claims battery life of up to 12 months.

The device provides an early warning of products of combustion, and sounds an alarm at the hint of fire.

Submersible Pump

Majol Portable Power Systems Inc., has announced a submersible pump that is protected by thermal cutout. Model 2M 400A, with a 2 inch top discharge, weighs 45 pounds, and has a cast iron impeller and three-stage seals bathed in oil. The 115 volt, ½ hp motor is double insulated. The pumping capacity is from 4800 gph at 5 feet and can lift water up to a shut-off height of 43 feet. The pump comes with a 36-foot, No. 16,3-wire neoprene power cord with strain relief, and a 20-foot nylon lifting rope.

Emergency Lighting Unit

Dynaray, a division of Electro Powerpacs Corp., announces the Econo-Lite Model DR500-2 emergency lighting unit featuring decorator styling.

Features include a textured woodgrain face, a wraparound black cowl, and an allsolid-state charger that recharges the sealed, maintenance-free battery within 12 hours after a 90-minute discharge. Power transfer is instantaneous. A test switch and highcharge light are also included. A voltmeter is optional.

American Bristol, Inc., is now offering a breathing air recharging station built on a single frame. The equipment includes a 5000 psi, 25 cfm compressor, a purification unit and two to four air storage cylinders. Accessories include a CO monitor and a dew point alarm.
