Strobe Light

A flashing, 360-degree strobe warning light is now available from Specialty Lighting, Inc. This unit, Series 2110, is designed for both temporary or permanent installation on an emergency vehicle.

The light has a xenon lamp and a plastic housing with a threaded lens. Interchangeable lenses are available in blue, red, amber or clear.

Low voltage or high voltage operation is featured with a protected switch for selecting 6 or 12 volts and 12 or 24 volts.

Mobile Amplifier/Charger

Wilson Electronics, Inc. has redesigned its mobile amplifier/charger. The revised unit is approximately 40 percent smaller and 70 percent lighter than the former unit with several added features, such as a built-in 5watt audio amplifier and speaker.

Voice/Alarm Unit

Wheelock Signals, Inc. has designed a Voice/Alarm appliance that converts a standard fire alarm system from old electromechanical alarms to voice communications, plus synthetic tone signaling and strobe light capability.

The Wheelock 879 Series Control Panel attaches to a compatible standard fire alarm control panel with three external line connections.

Wheelock speakers or strobe/speakers units replace the old signaling devices using the existing two wires and outlet boxes. The control panel actuates a synthetic electronic tone signal and a hand microphone is used to give instruction for evacuation.

The power required comes from the DC power of the fire alarm panel.

Ceiling Sprinkler

Grinnel Eire Protection Systems Company has developed a concealed recessed sprinkler head called the Cleanline II. It provides fire protection without interfering with design.

Features include a 25 percent reduction in diameter, easy installation, FM approved in chrome and white finished and plus or minus 1/8-inch adjustment (total 1/4-inch adjustment).

The Cleanline II Sprinkler is available in two temperature ratings, 165°F and 212°F.

Generators

Hale Fire Pump Co. has introduced Hot Shot generators with two pole-wound-type, revolving field, ball-bearing units.

Generators for 3500 watts are skidmounted, skid with turnout handles or chrome wrap-around frames.

The 5000 and 7500-watt models are either skid-mounted or skid with turnout handles.

The chrome control panel has five breaker-protected outlets, 120 and 240-v, electric start and stop buttons and battery disconnect. Copper and iron are added to the generator for a power surge to start tools while maintaining voltage regulation within 4 percent.

Light Poles

Kwik-Raze has introduced its full line of high intensity quartz telescoping light poles available with a positive Kwik-Kelease handle assembly, for easy adjustment.

The lights are available in 12 vdc (350,000 cp), 120 vac (500 watts), and 220 vac (1000 and 1500 watts) and the poles are available in six styles of cast aluminum mounting brackets, for customized mounting on apparatus.

A 5-foot outerpole, with a 4-foot telescoping height, is standard, with all wiring concealed in the aluminum pole. Custom heights are available on special order.

Nozzle

Elkhart Brass Manufacturing Co., Inc. has recently announced that their nozzle, the Chief series, is now available in all three sizes: 1, 1 1/2 and 2 1/2-inches.

Each size nozzle is constructed of lightweight Elk-O-Lite. All feature an orange protective bumper and spinning teeth for a full water curtain. Perforated stem for foam application is on 1 1/2 and 2 1/2-inch models. All sizes offer the flush feature without shutting down and come in a wide range of factory pre-set gallonages, which can be changed in the field.

Hose Washer

Higgins has developed a large diameter hose washer that washes hose up to 6-inches in diameter by connecting to a hydrant or pumper.

The unit operates under normal water pressure with two water curtains. Made of aluminum alloy, the washer weighs 28pounds.

Rescue Tool

Paratech Inc. recently developed the HRT hydraulic power rescue tool. A 26 or 8-inch spreader and a shear with a blade opening of 4.5-inches are available.

All tools feature a twist to activate the safety control handle. The power unit assembly has a 3.5 hp, 4-cycle Briggs & Stratton gas engine. The hydraulic pumps has a selector valve assembly that allows for hookup and operation of two tools without having to disconnect hoses.

A manually operated foot pump and a set of chains, hooks and adapters are also available.

Resuscitator/Inhalator

I.D.M. Inc. has introduced a resuscitator/ inhalator unit with optional aspirator. The resuscitator has a demand valve and form fitting mask with inflatable cuff and the inhalator is easily activated for adjustable liter flow. The oxygen powered aspirator is used for the removal of mucous or other foreign matter.

Each component, (resuscitator, inhalator or aspirator), can be operated simultaneously or separately, enabling two victims to be aided at the same time.

A 20 cubic foot oxygen cylinder is included and the unit is stored in an impact resistant formica case.

Portable Foam Unit

Rockwood Systems Corp. has developed a 30-gallon mobilcart fire protection system that uses protein, fluoroprotein and synthetic foam concentrates. With a coverage range of up to 60-feet, the mobil cart is designed for use in flammable hazard areas. The unit comes equipped with eductor, metering valve, low expansion or high expansion nozzle and hose.

Gloves

The Tempo Max and Tempo Option No. 40, lined and unlined fire fighting gloves that meet OSHA standards are now available from Tempo Glove Mfg., Inc.

Both styles include wing thumb construction with stress welts in the thumb and at the base of the fingers. The Aqua-Temp cowhide thermal leather is moisture repellent and protects the hand from extreme heat, as well as being cut and puncture resistant. The leather shell extends beyond the wrist to provide additional protection. Four-inches of knitted Kynol provides forearm protection.

A 100 percent knitted wool glove is permanently sewn in to give hand and wrist protection against extreme heat and cold. Additional protection with the unlined Tempo No. 40 is gained by using full-length cotton or wool liners.

The gloves are available in four sizes: small, medium, large and extra-large.

Cardiac Care System

The Lifepak 5 acute cardiac care system, from Physio-Control Corporation, has added a three-lead select and freeze feature for enhanced arrhythmia analysis. The unit also has a new high-intensity monitor with sunscreen for improved cardioscope visibility.

The Lifepak 5 system weighs 18.9 pounds and consists of two self-contained modules that can slide apart to operate completely independently. The ECG module monitors and records the patient’s cardiac rhythm. The defibrillator module delivers an electrical charge ranging from 20 to 400 joules.

Both modules are self-powered and have interchangeable and rechargeable batteries.

Hose Reels

Aero-Motive Mfg. Co. offers a line of fire fighting hose reels with capacities from 175-feet of 3/4-inch to 175-feet of 1 1/2-inch hose. High pressure, leakproof swing joints handle pressures up to 1000 psi. Inlet and outlet locations are offered with right hand, top rewind standard. A brake controls the reel speed and locks it in any position, and adjustable spring tension is standard.

Honeywell Motor Products Division has recently introduced electric generators.

The generators in Honeywell’s Power Line convert DC battery energy to 120 volt ac or dc current to drive a variety of power tools, appliances and electrical equipment.

Radio

Motorola’s Communications Group has expanded its line of HT210 Series “HandieTalkie” FM two-way radios to include units in low power VHF and UHF bands.

The HT210 Portable Radios are available in VHF (136-174 MHz), and UHF (406-420 and 450-470 MHz). Power outputs are 1.5 or 4.5 watts for VHF and 1.0 or 3.5 watts for UHF models.

These radios are available with one or two frequencies, carrier squelch or tone-coded squelch and external speaker jack. The high-impact polycarbonate plastic material provides maximum protection.
