Tire traction unit

Tractioneer Company introduces Tractioneers, heat-treated alloy steel traction units. You can apply them snugly to dual tires in 10-15 minutes without jacking wheels. They are used for close wheel clearances and are up to 500% more durable than conventional tire chains, according to the manufacturer.

Designed for both onand off-highway use, Tractioneers have excellent roadability at speeds up to 50 mph. Sections are replaceable by removing two lock nuts.

Helmet light system

The Helmate by Acorn Products Co. is a system that mounts to your helmet. It consists of two powerful lights on a rotating axis that allows you to detect the light where you need it most, regardless of your head’s position.

Each light may be removed easily and instantly without removing your helmet, according to the manufacturer. The nylon accessory band between the lights has reflective, glow-in-the-dark safety tabs and holds four Adjust-O-Wedges.

New coupling tool

Pry-Pic Enterprises has introduced their new spanner and tool that handles all common hose couplings. Although Pry-Pic is small, when used as a spanner it provides heavyduty leverage for undoing any profile lug on 1-inch through 4-inch couplings, including thread-over or twist-lock types.

At one end of this 71/4-ounce tool is a pick for prying apart snap couplings. The head end, opposite pick, includes a 3/8-inch hole for attaching to a grommet on a firefighter’s coat.

Replacement battery packs

Alexander Manufacturing Co. has modified two of its replacement battery packs to include the complete case and wiring system. Previously, the batteries were offered in an insert format only, requiring the equipment operator to remove the old cells and replace them with the new cells.

The two packs are the M300, used in Datascope M/D # Model 693 Monitor/Defibrillators, and the MS78660, used in Hewlett-Packard Models 78660 and 78670 Monitor/ Defibrillators.

High-frequency scanner

The Regency MX7000, manufactured by Regency Electronics Inc., is a scanner that monitors all frequencies between 25 MHz and 550 MHz. It can also cover frequencies at high as 1.3 GHz.

The scanner can monitor up to 20 channels, or search through an entire band for an active new frequency. Other features include: a 24-hour digital clock, priority channel, dual scan speeds, and scan or search delay.

HD Electric Company has announced the availability of the L140 battery-operated halogen floodlight that emits a circular, clearly defined distribution of light.

Designed for those who require strong area lighting for work at close to medium distances, the extremely small front lens through which an extra wide beam of intense light is projected, provides the desired homogeneous circle beam, according to the company.

Elbow valve

Angus Fire Armour Corporation introduces a new, compact, inlet elbow valve to the large diameter hose market. The new Style 13 is the narrowest inlet elbow with relief available, according to the manufacturer, with 8 inches from swivel to Storz. Other features include: 50-200 psi adjustable pressure relief valve, air bleeder, convenient carry handle, blank tap for pressure gauge, and light-weight aluminum construction.

Multi-function exercise bench

The new Universal Bench from Universal Gym Equipment Inc. was designed to be a multi-function free-weight exercise unit.

It is fully adjustable to accommodate up to seven major exercises: incline press, decline press, leg curl, dipping, supine press, leg extension, and preacher curl.

The angle of the bench can be varied and the position of the rack relative to the bench can be adjusted forward or backward to suit almost every exercise requirement, according to the company.

Absorbent blankets

Lab Safety Supply is offering a free sample of their new vapor barrier sorbent (VBS) blankets that absorb hazardous liquids and suppress vapors at the same time. These sheets of treated microfibers of polypropylene have a high rate of absorbency and chemical resistance, according to the manufacturer. A polyethylene film on one side helps suppress toxic, irritant, or flammable vapors.

VBS blankets can absorb spills of acids, caustics, solvents, oils, and hydrofluoric acid. They can also be used to protect work surfaces from chemical spills.

Cut-off saw

The new Partner K500 cut-off saw is a gasoline engine driven saw that is used for cutting concrete floors, curbs, gutters, sidewalks, and driveways. It can cut through all types of ironwork, steel cables, bars, posts, and corrugated steel roof panels, according to the manufacturer. The saw weighs only 16.95 pounds without the blade.

Fire hydrant meter

A new generation of compact, light-weight, 3and 4-inch fire hydrant flowmeters offering accurate, instantaneous readout of flow rate and total gallons is available from Ametek’s McCrometer Division.

Standard features include magnetic drive, cable driven mechanical register, flow rate indicator, and totalizer (gallons). An electronic, battery-powered LCD totalizer is optional.

These portable units can be used for measuring temporary hydrant or outlet deliveries, brines and batching in processing plants, sprinkler system testing, marine and other applications where determining flow rates and/or total delivery is important.

Vehicle emergency device

Emergency Vehicle Immobilizer (EVI) from Road Rescue Inc. is a compact device that gives theft-proof protection for all emergency vehicles, according to the manufacturer. It allows removal of the ignition key at the emergency site, leaving all vehicle emergency systems operational. Steering column and gear selector are locked, but the engine remains running, keeping all accessories and electrical systems fully operational.

If unauthorized drive-off is attempted, EVI is electrically disengaged, shutting off the engine and accessories. Once disengaged, the engine cannot be restarted without your ignition key.

Combustible gas alarm

A new personal monitor for detecting combustible atmospheres has been introduced by Mine Safety Appliances Company (MSA).

The Explosilarm portable combustible gas alarm, Model 102, can detect a broad range of flammable gases or vapors in the air up to their lower explosive limit (LEL), and can be used as a semi-continuous monitor for up to 10 hours, according to the company.

It is suitable anywhere combustible gases or liquids are used, and measures atmospheres for solvent vapors, volatile fuel vapors (except leaded gasoline), natural and manufactured gases. The compact instrument features an external diffusion sensor.
