Two-way radio

The Communications Sector of Motorola Inc. introduces its microprocessor-controlled HT600, a two-way, FM portable radio. The portable radio has a data-stored “personality” that includes frequencies, squelch codes, and other operating characteristics. Each can be added to or changed by using a personal computer program.

The multiple digital private line and private line coded squelch features of the radio permit only those messages with the user’s particular code to be heard. This minimizes co-channel reception, reduces operator fatigue, and enhances compatibility with other radio systems.

Smoke detector

A new photobeam smoke detector from Fire Control Instruments can detect the difference between smoke and airborne debris. It can also sense smoke up to 325 feet away.

Unlike other photobeam systems, the FC1 PBD consists of a separate transmitter head, receiver head, and control panel. The control panel is placed at ground level, while the transmitter and the receiver can be placed up to 80 feet above the floor. The system is made for use in smallto medium-sized businesses, industrial areas, and multifamily housing complexes.

Remote telephone equipment

Earmark Inc. introduces the Remote Telephone Interface Model RT1-1, the latest in its line of base and repeater accessories.

The device consists of an audio coupler and connectors. The base station operator snaps a standard telephone into the coupler, enabling the caller to be part of the radio network. Supervisors can monitor progress of remote-site operations even when working teams don’t have access to a phone.

The RTI-1 is fully compatible with cellular as well as standard.

Map software

StreetSmart 2.0, available from Street Map Software, always gives the fastest route between two stops.

With the software system, departments can build a map database and specify distances to a precision of 1/1000 of a mile. A graphics option allows the user to add graphical information to the map, by using a mouse; users can display or print portions of the map, and zoom in to focus on one intersection or the whole town. The software runs on IBM Personal Computers and compatible hardware.

Hewlett-Packard Co.’s HP DeskJet printer offers high-resolution text and graphics and can be used with office paper.

Designed for individual use, the printer is a compact size ideal for the desktop. It prints at a speed of about two pages a minute, features an automatic cut-sheet feeder, and has a front-load design.

Haz-mat leak sealer

Leak Lock, from PND Corp., will control leaks involving anything from small slits to large holes.

Cover the hole with Leak Lock’s plug. Plug N’Dike, place the epoxy patch over the plug, and the container is ready for service. Leak Lock isn’t affected by moisture and has a shelf life of one year.

Lectric Lites Co.’s Space Ranger XLR light bar combines the company’s highintensity, double-flashing strobe lights with rotating and directional halogens in order to produce maximum light output.

Low-band portable radio

Midland LMR introduces a compact, lowband portable radio that provides up to four crystal-controlled channels in the 30to 50MHz range.

Model 70-043 has a one-piece chassis with a stainless steel front and back. The radio frequency output is 5 watts, and is tunable to 2 watts. An external speaker and microphone with lapel clip, carrying cases, and battery chargers are some of the options. A twist-off 600 mAh battery pack is standard equipment.

A new 7700 Hydraulics Calculations Package from Sigma Dynamics Corp. allows the user to calculate hydraulics projects four times faster than in the past, according to the company.

The 7700 system features on-screen editing, input error check, menu access, and help screens.

It includes Quicksize, a feature that enables the operator to change pipe sizes quickly and efficiently with a single line of input.

Forrest Safety Products introduces the Wonder Bar, a compact, multipurpose rope management tool. It can be used as a load-lowering device, as a single-rope rappel tool, and for a knotless anchor. Compressed air filter

The K Series adsorption filter, from Deltech Engineering Inc., removes odors, tastes, and other gaseous hydrocarbons from compressed air. Vapors are removed by adsorption in a bed of activated carbon granules.

A three-stage separation process removes particulates, water, liquid oil, and oil aerosols before the air reaches the vaporadsorbing cartridge. The filter’s design eliminates the need for prefilters in most applications which saves on installation, maintenance, and operating costs.

Voice amplification systems

The Speak-Ezee models C and CP, available from Scott Aviation, are designed to provide voice amplification between personnel wearing the company’s respiratory protective equipment.

Model CP performs all of the same basic functions as the C model, but also has a Personal Alert Safety System. The PASS automatically emits a warning signal if the wearer is trapped or incapacitated; the warning signal can also be sounded manually.
