Resuscitation

The hazard of receiving cross-contamination while rendering mouth-to-mouth resuscitation in an emergency situation has become a reality. Many rescuers are at a loss to continue rendering first-aid by mouth-to-mouth once the victim has vomitted. This is understandable since this year 1.2 million heart attack victims will vomit just before an attack and/or expiring. The ResQ-Mouth-to-Mask Resuscitator is a reusable inexpensive instrument that has been designed to eliminate the objectionable aspects of the mouth-to-mouth techniques of artificial respiration. It is easily used by professionals as well as inexperienced operators to ventilate a victim’s lungs. An air transfer of 1000 ml is easily accomplished with the adult model allowing even a child to resuscitate an adult victim. The child model is equipped with a smaller face mask and a pressure relief valve that is preset at 14 mm of water to prevent over inflating a child’s lungs.

A clear flexible oral/nasal face mask permits a proper seal to be easily obtained. The unique valve assembly channels the victim’s breath into the atmosphere away from the operator and eliminates the hazards of cross-contamination from AIDS, Herpes Simplex and TB. An inhalation valve permits the operator to first rebreathe a portion of his exhausted air, thereby reducing hyperventilation, dizziness and fatigue.

Protective Suits

Mine Safety Appliances Company has introduced two new generation Chempruf Suits that protect against chemical splashes and spills and are designed to integrate with MSA breathing apparatus for NIOSH/MSFfA approved respiratory protection as well.

Like the original Chempruf suits from MSA, the new Duo-Flo and Dual-purpose Chempruf models are one-piece, total-encapsulating suits that offer full-body protection in a variety of chemically hazardous situations.

The Chempruf Duo-Flo Suit is designed for use with Duo-Flo Combination Breathing Apparatus with Ultra Filter Cartridge. The Duo-Flo Combination Breathing Apparatus works as an airsupplied respirator, but when the air line is disconnected, the Duo-Flo apparatus automatically operates as a cartridgetype respirator allowing the worker to escape a contaminated environment or move to another work area and reconnect to an open air supply.

The Dual-purpose Suit is an expanded back version which provides room for the air cylinder worn with MSA Dual-purpose Breathing Apparatus. The Dual-purpose breathing apparatus operates as an air supplied respirator when an air line is attached, or as a self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) when used with an air cylinder.

When used with Dual-purpose or Duo-Flo respiratory systems the new Chempruf suits offer NIOSH-approved protection from despersoids, such as fumes, dusts, mists and toxic gases, and skin protection from hazardous materials.
