Mobile Decontamination Units

Evergreen Industries Mobile Decontamination Division, formerly Mobile Detox, Inc., has designed a Mobile Decontamination Unit equipped to meet OSHA and EPA regulations governing personnel decontamination in asbestos removal, building demolition, hazardous waste removal, and many other situations. The units serve as a transition zone between work areas and the outside environment, providing effective health protection in routine or emergency situations.

The key to the effective decontamination offered by Evergreen MDU’s is the unique, patent pending negative air flow system in which contaminated air is prevented from entering the clean area of the unit. Units are available in a variety of configurations, are easily transportable and require minimal setup time.

Hoods

As a result of research and testing by Celanese and Dr. J.H. Veghte, Lion Uniform announces the introduction of the PBI Protect-All Hoods into their line of protective clothing. The use of sock hoods gives the fire fighter complete neck and face protection with or without SC BA.

PBI stands for Polybenzimidazole, a Celanese fiber that was developed for the U.S. Space program and is now becoming available to qualified companies for selected applications.

Laboratory tests show that this exclusive PBI sock hood fabric gives far better thermal protection than the hood material currently used even though both are the same w eight. PBI hood fabric stops glowing four times faster and shows four times less char. The PBI blend does not brittle or shrink and break open. The PBI Protect-All Hood comes in Long Drape and Short Drape styles.

Lifesaving Kit

. A new lifesaving kit called the Life-Trac System is designed to minimize fatalities and injuries that occur when fire fighters who are not accounted for get trapped inside burning buildings.

Available from Ziamatic Corp., the system includes a set of Velcro name tags, two plexiglass recording boards, a pen, and a stopwatch. Each fire fighter affixes two name tags to the underside of his turnout coat collar. When donning breathing apparatus or entering the fire scene, he gives one tag to the control officer, who puts it on the control board and records time in and out. In this way, the system permits rapid, accurate recordkeeping of all personnel’s whereabouts.

Helicopter Fire Fighting System

A new helicopter fire fighting system designed and manufactured by Chadwick, Inc., for rapid response in high rise fires and oil fed fires has been developed. The C-300 FireMaster is completely self-contained and can direct a stream of water, or chemical, into a window or doorway at any floor level the helicopter can reach. Hot spots can be cooled to allow victims an escape path, or fire fighters access.

The pump assembly and nozzle probe are the heart of the FireMaster system. Mounted to its support frame work and equipped with ground handling wheels, this portion of the system is easily rolled out of the hanger, w’here it has been plugged in to maintain battery charge. Using the nozzle probe as a handle it is guided into position underneath the helicopter. There it is lifted up and attached to existing aircraft hardpoints using quick lock pins.
