A laboratory application data sheet on the use of Foxboro Century OVA 108 and OVA 128 Organic Vapor Analyzers for arson investigation studies is now available from the Foxboro Company.

These analyzers provide a rapid, effective, on-site method for detecting vapors emitted by trace quantities of accelerants such as gasoline, acetone, and alcohol, which remain in fire debris.

Scott Aviation, a Figgie International Company, has introduced their latest Air-Pak 4.5’s, complete with “Total-Wrap” 4,500-psi cylinders of 30and 60-minute duration. These new cylinders are completely interchangeable with existing Scott 4,500-psi cylinders currently in use.

Encapsulating suit

An Acidmaster encapsulating suit with an all-purpose hood that protects against hazardous chemicals is currently available from Standard Safety Equipment Company.

This Acidmaster accommodates almost all brands of SCBA, according to the manufacturer. The hood easily fits over a hard cap and features an oversized, hermetically sealed window for clear vision.

The Acidmaster is offered in two highly chemical-resistant PVC materials: Standard Safety’s trademarked GraLite-20 or Winter Glo-20 for low-temperature applications.

Fireproof oil spill barrier

Pyroboom is a new fireproof oil spill barrier now available from Globe International Inc. It is designed to contain burning oil for over 24 hours without leakage or structural failure, according to the company.

The Pyroboom floating barrier consists of a polymer coated fabric, featuring metallic wire interwoven with refractory material for high-temperature resistance (up to 2,400°F), strength, and durability.

Smoke generating systems

New smoke generating systems from Zico enable firefighters to simulate actual fire scene conditions without endangering personnel. Called Quic-Smoke generating systems, they are designed for training personnel as well as testing equipment and ductwork.

Zico’s Quic-Smoke systems produce a continuous, high-volume of dense, white smoke that is odorless, non-toxic, and nonirritating to the skin, eyes, and respiratory system. It leaves no residue and won’t ignite in the presence of sparks, according to the company.

Trilling Resourcs Ltd. announces the introduction of new packaging for its Water-Jel Fire Blanket-Plus and Water-Jel Burn Wrap/Extinguisher, both one-step burn therapy/rescue devices. The new packaging will now allow under-the-seat storage on rescue and high-risk vehicles.

Haz-mat protection suit

A new total protection suit for heavy-duty rescue operations in environments with hazardous chemicals is now available from Trelleborg Inc.

Called the Trellchem Super Extra, the suit combines maximum mobility with the greatest possible safety, according to the company. Both the wearer and his breathing apparatus are protected by the viton/ butyl combination construction. The butyl core is gastight and resistant to most chemicals, while the outer layer of viton supplements the butyl.
