Portable antennas

Four new flexible 800-MHz antennas suitable for use with “briefcase” portables, such as the new cellular radio telephones, have been added to the line offered by The Antenna Specialists Company. The new antennas, approximately 8 inches in length, provide a range of fittings to match almost all of the popular portables currently in use in the 800-MHz cellular, trunked, and conventional dispatch systems, according to the company.

The antenna is constructed of plated music wire and high-carbon steel with a flexible shaft core, encased in a rugged, abrasionresistant PVC dip coating. Power ratings are 25 watts maximum; nominal impedance is 50 ohms.

PCB screening kit

Clor-N-Oil kits, from Dexsil Chemical Corporation, are designed to detect the possible presence of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in transformer oil and to determine whether or not more extensive gas chromatograph tests are required.

The kit consists of two polyethylene tubes and a polyethylene bellows type disposable pipette. The screening process is a six-step series, which indicates when the total chlorine level is low enough that the PCB level cannot exceed 50 ppm and when it is high enough that the PCB level might exceed 50 ppm.

Underwater communications

Ocean Technology Systems now offers two different types of underwater communications systems for fire and police search/rescue dive teams.

The MK1-DCI two-diver air radio (hardwire) provides a land or boat-based tender, and the divers, with clear voice communications. The MK1-DCI has either two-wire or four-wire (round-robin) capabilities.

The MK2-D/S unit is a through-water communication system providing the tender with lightweight portability and complete freedom of movement for the divers. The surface/tender portion was designed for use in small, inflatable boats or as a highly portable land base.
