Rubber flashlight

Bright Star Industries has recently introduced a rubber flashlight, Model RBR-219. It features injection molded Santoprene thermoplastic rubber by Monsanto in the body, end cap, lens ring, and thumb switch. Santoprene is five times stronger than ABS or polyethylene, enabling these new flashlights to withstand six-foot drop tests at -60°F and +275°F with no cracking or crazing, according to the company.

The black thermoplastic rubber casing resists a wide range of harsh chemicals. Also, Santoprene is nonconductive and will protect the user should the flashlight contact live current.

Covered fire hose

National Fire Hose Corp. introduces Flomaster, a new covered fire hose. Some of the major characteristics of this new product line include: high-abrasion resistance, high-heat resistance, flexibility, low-friction loss, and excellent handling properties. The hose sizes range from 1 1/2 inches through 5 inches. It is available with both lightweight threaded and storz fittings.

Water flow device

A new water flow device is now available from Hydra-Shield Manufacturing Inc. Hydra-Squid is a ball-swivel device that can be affixed directly to the discharge outlet of a fire pump. It enables the pump operator to cover an exposure and protect his apparatus from flame or radiant heat damage. HydraSquid also eliminates time-consuming hose hook-ups, according to the company.

This device will flow well over 1,000 gallons per minute using the department’s existing nozzles. In low manpower situations, the pump operator can direct exposure covering streams from the apparatus in the front of the fire building.

Compact holster

Designed with the rescuer in mind, Emergency Specialty Products has introduced a new holster that not only carries a pocket mask, but all other essential personal rescue items. PM (Pocket Mask) Plus is a compact hip kit that holds various scissors, hemostats, penlights, a pair of rubber gloves plus a pocket mask.

Designed for first responders, firefighters, police officers, and ail rescue squad members, the PM Plus is made of ballistic nylon with a special secure snap belt loop fastener. The PM Plus can also carry seat belt cutters, window punches, and heavy-duty medic shears.

Emergency One Inc. introduces the “Cyclone” series custom pumper. The standard custom chassis has a short 160-inch wheelbase, allowing for easy handling plus a short turning radius, according to the company. The “Cyclone” is mounted on a custom chassis.

A wide variety of engines are available: Detroit 6V92TA, CAT 3208T, Detroit f V92TA, and the powerful Detroit 8V92TA. An all-aluminum, all-welded cab and body makes it lightweight but durable.

Cylinder holder

Zico’s new Quic-Hold Mechanical Walkaway Bracket is now available from Ziamatic Corp. It holds any USA-made self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) in position for donning. Firefighters slip into the harness, pull the cam-operated release lever, and SCBA is released onto the firefighter’s back, ready for use. The Bracket has four PVC-coated clamping arms that lock SCBA in place without damaging the cylinder, according to the company.

Foam chambers

A line of foam chambers, used to protect various types of flammable liquid storage tanks, has been introduced by Ansul Fire Protection. Tanks that can be protected by the foam chambers include open top floating roof tanks and cone roof tanks with or without internal floaters. Additional applications include most types of open tanks where flammable liquid products are involved.

Emergency and warning lights

Elan Emergency Lighting, a division of Altus Corporation, announces the availability of their new Strobe Alert-30 emergency and warning light that now features a replaceable lithium power cell.

Strobe Alert-30 has a switch adjustable rate of from 35-65 strobes per minute and offers twice the operating life of previous models, with up to 40 hours of continuous use with one battery, according to the company. It emits an electronic strobe that is visible up to five miles.

Boston Whaler has introduced a new line of Guardian Dive Boats specifically designed for dive and rescue operations. They range in size from 17-27 feet.

Using their unsinkable Whaler hull, the sides were modified, reducing the gunwale to water line height permitting divers to enter and exit easily, according to the company. Options to complement the dive boat include: heavy-duty diver’s ladder, rescue rails, tank racks, special storage lockers, and console locations.

Personal alarm system

Lifeline Safety Products Inc. has introduced a new model PAL (personal alert safety system) unit that now meets or exceeds NFPA 1982 specifications in addition to CAL/ OSHA Article 3401 Subsection C standards. Called PAL III, the unit is an intrinsically safe audio signaling monitor with a highdecibel, long-distance, totally directional alarm.

Designed to guide rescuers to injured, unconscious, or lost personnel, PAL Ill’s signal also pulses to distinguish it from other alarms. Its 95+ DBA alarm is automatically activated by dual motion detectors when the wearer is immobile for more than 25 seconds. PAL III also can be manually activated by a switch designed specifically for easy operation by gloved hands.

National Draeger introduces a new line of fail-safe micro-monitors that weigh only five ounces and measure 3.5 inches X 2 inches X 1 inch. The new 100 Series monitors from Ecolyzer are the first personal gas monitors that use a Draeger/Ecolyzer electrochemical sensor and a package design that makes it “hand held.”

Breathing apparatus kits

A new series of kits and components designed to let users upgrade the Model 401 Air Mask and MSA Dual-Purpose Breathing Apparatus is now available from Mine Safety Appliances (MSA).

This Air Mask Upgrading Program primarily consists of four kits and select components that allow users to obtain MSA’s new Ultralite Air Mask technology in an affordable manner without completely replacing their existing apparatus.

The program allows users to upgrade three key areas of their apparatus: the harness and carrier assembly, Audi-Larm warning device, and the regulator. One or more of the various kits together with select components may be used to upgrade apparatus.

Grippets are convenient for securing loose clothing used around moving machinery or closing off openings for hands or feet in chemical protective clothing.
