OCALA, FL—E-ONE, a subsidiary of REV Group and a manufacturer of fire apparatus, announced that its patented ECOLOGIC® mobile cart foam test system has been approved and recommended by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for use in aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) testing by airport operators.
The ECOLOGIC is an ARFF foam testing system that does not use foam for testing. It is an input-based testing system designed to provide fire departments the means to test the accuracy of their foam system without the expense or environmental impact of using foam to perform an output-based test. The ECOLOGIC mobile cart foam test system has been “accepted for immediate use, to satisfy the Part 139 testing requirement while minimizing the environmental impact.”
The FAA recommendation came in the form of a CertAlert issued on Jan. 17, 2019 to all certificated Part 139 airports and aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) departments.
“The FAA believes that testing ARFF vehicles’ AFFF systems is essential to safety,” the FAA notice reads. “We are working to give ARFF departments the flexibility to ensure they maintain their ARFF vehicles’ readiness, while also addressing environmental concerns.”
