BAUER: The Best Breathing Air Compressors in the Industry

Firefighters know BAUER Compressors for our decades of experience in creating superior breathing air products. Over the years, we have developed a comprehensive breathing air product portfolio for the end user’s applications, ranging from small portable lightweight systems, to large stationary systems. Now, we continue to evolve to respond to new challenges, fueled by our desire to create the most dependable products in the industry. Wherever the customer requires reliable, ultra-pure breathing air to maintain life safely, look to BAUER for our enduring commitment to quality.

BAUER B-VIRUS FREE™

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a new awareness of the hazards of potential viruses – even in breathing air. Although breathing air goes through a rigorous purification process, this process merely strips away unwanted gases and particulate matter, and isn’t designed to get rid of a virus.

We created the BAUER B-VIRUS FREE™ filtration system to inactivate up to 99.9% of the SARS-CoV-2 virus in the air intake section of the breathing air compressor. B-VIRUS FREE™ uses a specially designed UVC light source to destroy pathogens before the intake air section of the compressor, free of chemicals and ozone. The UVC wavelength is absorbed into the pathogens’ DNA, where the photons destroy the bonds between the DNA strands of the virus, effectively preventing the virus from reproducing. We have also kept our customers’ ease of access in mind, and made B-VIRUS FREE™ compatible with any new model VERTECON®, VERTICUS®, BAUER LEGACY™, and UNICUS® breathing air compressor system.

BAUER CONNECT®️ 2.0 AND RFIDPro™

BAUER CONNECT® is an app and internet-based IoT solution which allows the customer to remotely control and monitor the entire BAUER system through any wireless mobile device or computer. The platform received a new update with BAUER CONNECT® 2.0 to improve its ease-of-use, with features such as a new mobile “SCADA View” dashboard with a real-time display of the compressor system, improved historical reports functionality, a customer administrator function to manage users and access, and more. As always, BAUER CONNECT® 2.0 includes push notifications for instant alerts, as well as a remote HMI function for factory-trained personnel to control the system remotely for servicing upon request.

The RFIDPro™ data logging system gives a similar control: SCBA cylinders are scanned through the wireless BAUER RFIDPro™ reader, which automatically checks whether the cylinder is active (not previously tagged out or end of life), as well as up-to-date on hydro testing. If the cylinder is current, the system walks the operator through the cylinder inspection and fill process. BAUER RFIDPro™ keeps track of when the SCBA was put into service; when and where it was last filled; what pressure it was filled to; and more. The system also ensures that customers won’t be caught off guard, since RFIDPro™ it alerts the user when the SCBA cylinder needs to be hydrotested, as well as when it has reached its expiration date. This allows the fire department to seamlessly log every SCBA fill event for convenience and accuracy, while maintaining their compliance with NFPA 1989 regulations.

UNICUS® 4i UPDATES

Our customers asked, we answered: we have introduced a number of updates to our UNICUS® 4i all-in-one compressor and filling stations. These improvements include replacing the manual fill valves with indicator lights to alert the operator when SCBA filling is complete, creating a manual cascade system bypass option, and offering an auto-cascade capable of handling 7000 PSIG service. The auto-cascade system is easily controllable with the HMI touchscreen, and automatically sends air from the onboard storage system down to the SCBA cylinders that are being filled by the unit. In the event of a total power failure, the manual bypass system ensures that the fire department is still in service and able to utilize the stored air. As always, we constantly strive for ways to improve safety and quality for both firefighters and the communities they serve.

BAUER is known for providing world-class support for its global customers, from the moment that a customer buys a compressor, to the end of the compressor’s natural lifecycle. Reliability, safety, and optimal performance are critical priorities for BAUER, and earn BAUER our place as the gold standard in the firefighting industry. Dräger Up Firefighter Health & Safety on the Fire Ground

The rise of occupational cancer among Firefighters in recent years prompted several changes. Some behaviors — like letting soot and smoky grime stain turnout gear — have started to fade. This evolution of the Fire Service is just beginning as we learn how to best protect the men and women on the fire ground.

Part of this evolution must include providing today’s Command Staff and Incident Commanders with more information on what’s happening on the Fire Ground.

Dräger recognizes the complexities of today’s Fire Ground and the multitude of incidents that require Firefighters to step into areas of increased risk — both short- and long-term. Some dangers are immediate — fire, smoke, toxic gas, etc. Others cause a long-term harmful effect on First Responders — carcinogen particulates, chemicals, cardiovascular insult and damage, etc.

Several Dräger products — when used in combination with one another — provide an unequaled level of safety and protection:

  • Reduce the introduction of particulates to the soft tissue in airways and on the face.
  • Provides warning to operators and command of potentially deadly gas allowing for retreat or increased protection.
  • Provide vital training in a controlled environment to prepare Firefighter for the multitude of circumstances that could occur.
  • Assist Special Operations Teams while conducting high-risk, high-impact, low-frequency evolutions.
  • Substantially improve the safety and health of Firefighters and other First Responders.

Dräger adapted a representative illustration of a Fire Ground. Every incident is unique and requires the expertise of experienced Incident Command to best determine how to establish the Zones along with the staging support services, rehab, decontamination, medical support, etc. Every Fire Ground is a dynamic environment. Zone boundaries can expand, contract, or adjust based on many circumstances. Among those adjustments, Command can enhance decisions with additional data including information from Dräger products.

When it comes to the products available from Dräger, the following would deployed widely on the Fire Ground:

  • SCBA and related components
  • Portable Gas Detection
  • Other forms of Airway Protection

Beyond these product categories, Dräger offers some products that fit into certain applications, including the following:

  • Fire Training
  • Initial, On-Site Cleaning
  • Overhaul and Investigation
  • Special Operations

By no means are the products listed here comprehensive. As a part of Dräger in Fire Ground Zones, products are introduced where each would be most beneficial. The following is just a partial list of the solutions available from Dräger:

  • The Dräger PSS 7000 SCBA provides exceptional ergonomic comfort for less stress. So many features make the PSS 7000 stand out including low cost of ownership, 15-year bumper-to-bumper warranty, and batteries that last a year without replacement or recharging.
  • Dräger offers a breadth of Live-Fire Training Systems to fit any budget. From a car prop system that can go anywhere to a multi-story, multi-fire Swede System Phase 5 that’s only limited by the training chief’s imagination, Dräger Live-Fire Training Systems always include a “train the trainers” course and curriculum.
  • A diverse collection of portable gas detectors including the Dräger Pac 6000 CO, the X-am 5000, and the X-am 8000. Attach the Pac 6000 CO to every medical kit, turn it on and leave it on non-stop for two years. When your EMS team is responding to a sick person, if carbon monoxide is at an unsafe level, EMTs and Paramedics will know immediately. For Firefighters supporting the front-line workers, include an X-am 5000 on apparatus to check for levels of the Toxic Twins CO and HCN, known to reach dangerous levels outside the IDLH. The X-am 8000 detects up to seven gases and oxygen levels; it’s a versatile tool to determine the presence of toxic gases, LEL, some VOCs, and whether hazmat needs to be called.
  • Dräger offers a wide range of air-purifying respirators including the X-plore 5500 and X-plore 1700. The X-plore 5500 provides 99.97% protection from particulates when using a P100 filter, protecting both airways and the eyes. The individually wrapped X-plore 1700 N95 disposable masks protect against 95% of fire ground particulates. Due to recent events, some quantities may be limited or inventory may be on backorder.

Dräger published a booklet about how our products might fit best to enhance the health and safety of First Responders on the Fire Ground. PPE WASHING

At Ready Rack, we believe that it’s important for fire stations to prefect their turnout gear decon routines! One of the best ways to do this is to outfit your station with firefighter PPE extractors and dryers that are NFPA 1851 compliant. For this reason, your department can ensure a proper, yet simple wash cycle. In addition to that, they can also take multiple sets of bunker gear shells or liners at a time!

READY DECON

Ready Rack has created a new turnout gear, fire house cleaner, and detergent line called Ready Decon to continue making strides toward our goal! PPE DRYING

Get your personal protective gear clean, dry, and ready for action with express turnout gear dryers from Ready Rack. Our Firehouse Express PPE dryers are commercial-grade and NFPA compliant. These electric drying cabinets are built to last and come with a 10-year warranty. Dry between 2 and 6 sets of bunker gear in a few hours! The flexibility of included hangers and shelving, along with optional hose drying racks, makes this system perfect for firefighter SCBA and fire hoses, too.

HELMETS

Firefighter safety starts with the right gear! At Ready Rack, we recognize that there are different ways to protect yourself on the job, so we work with Pacific Helmets to get your station the right firefighter helmets. Whether it is wildland or structural firefighting, we’ve got the helmet design for you!

What style does your department prefer? Ready Rack carries both modern and traditional designs of fire rescue helmets, and we make sure both styles are feature-packed! Of course, we also make sure all our helmets are NFPA certified for structural firefighting, with NFPA and ANSI certified eye protection. In addition to that, Pacific Helmets also brings the latest innovations from their modern style helmets like the F15 to their traditional styles like the F18 and F6.

Ready Rack by Groves Incorporated is proud to serve the heroes of the firefighting community and will continue to innovate and add more products to our line. We work to improve the health and lifestyle of our firefighters while keeping them safe to fight another day. Be sure to visit Ready Rack at FDIC 2022 and learn more about the new Ready Decon product line!

HFSC Resources Support Community Outreach

The Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. It was formed in 1996 in response to the growing need to inform the public about the life-saving value of home fire sprinkler protection.

HFSC develops and offers free educational content, programs and activities designed to increase public interest in, and knowledge about, the dangers of home fires and the unique life safety benefits of installing home fire sprinklers. Our content is available online to download on demand, along with free printed consumer educational material for the fire service. HFSC has always served as a partner to the fire service, helping improve local grassroots home fire sprinkler education as a key component of community risk reduction.

HFSC’s outreach is solely educational, with no product or industry promotion. HFSC does not lobby for code adoption at any level of government. There is no other national nonprofit that is focused exclusively on educating about home fire sprinklers. Because our process and content are timely and trusted, many other organizations use HFSC’s information and resources to extend their own outreach. HFSC has also earned the trust of local and national media as a neutral subject matter expert.

HFSC produced a new virtual reality video to increase awareness about how fast fires spread and how quickly home fire sprinklers stop a fire from becoming deadly. With user-controlled 360-degree full-room views, viewers experience actual house fires in virtual reality, feeling as if they are in the rooms. They’ll see flashover in the unsprinklered room in real time and watch a sprinkler automatically control the blaze in another. It can be watched with 3D glasses/headset for an immersive experience or in 2D on HFSC’s website.

Widespread anti-sprinkler-code activities prevent legislation and hamper voluntary home sprinkler installations. They burden the fire service by spreading myths and negativity. As a result, home sprinklers have been taken out of the codes in more than 25 states. One of HFSC’s free resources is a home developer education program for local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) in areas where there are no home sprinkler codes.

This program helps AHJs negotiate trade-ups/incentives to achieve sprinklered new-home developments. The program provides resources for all stakeholders including members of the home building industry, fire service, water purveyors, real estate and insurance agents and consumers. The program has proven that developers will install home fire sprinklers when they realize they can profit from affiliated trade-ups.

HFSC voluntary Board Members include representatives from the American Fire Sprinkler Association (AFSA), Canadian Automatic Sprinkler Association (CASA), FM Global, International Association of Fire Chiefs, National Association of State Fire Marshals, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA), National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors, State Farm Insurance, Underwriters Laboratories and U.S. Fire Administration.

Pierce Manufacturing:

Perform. Like No Other.

Performance

At Pierce Manufacturing, fire trucks are built to live up to the demands of firefighters and the communities they serve. Behind every highly customized, carefully-designed and engineered pumper, aerial, tanker and rescue unit is a team of professionals whose mission is to build a truck, exactly how it’s ordered. To Pierce, every step of the process is personal; from innovation and expertise, to customization and service.

As a single-source manufacturer with over one million square feet of state-of-the-art production space, there’s a reason you’ll find more than 27,000 Pierce trucks on the road today. Facilities are ISO-9001 certified, showing the company’s dedication to meet world-class standards for quality.

Proven Technology

Pierce is continually evolving to provide firefighters with industry-leading advancements and unmatched innovation. As a subsidiary of Oshkosh Corporation, the experienced team has access to an arsenal of cutting-edge technologies and revolutionary processes that have contributed to the development of six custom chassis and best-in-class innovations.

  • Pierce Volterra™ Electric Pumper: Introduced in June 2021, the Volterra pumper is the first electric fire truck in service in North America. Designed around Oshkosh proprietary and patented technology, the electric fire truck consists of a patented parallel-electric drive train featuring an electro-mechanical infinitely variable transmission which allows zero-emissions operation when powered by the integrated onboard batteries, and can be coupled to the internal combustion engine to provide continuous and uninterrupted power to the pumping system or drive system.
  • Ascendant® Class of Aerials: The Ascendant technology has expanded into six innovative products brilliantly engineered to equip firefighters with more aerial choices than ever before. Whether it be height or weight restrictions, compartment space, preference to ride rather than climb or rescue capabilities, the Ascendant technology provides flexibility and a wide range of options to meet departments’ needs.
  • Command Zone™:Cutting edge electronic system that makes it easier for firefighters to maintain their vehicles, prepare for calls and monitor performance on the scene. It also delivers the industry’s first prognostic capabilities.
  • Idle Reduction Technology: Incorporating high-performance lithium-ion batteries, main chassis engine auto-start, and full Command Zone™ integration, Pierce’s Idle Reduction Technology allows the apparatus to be on scene with zero air and noise pollution while maintaining mission-critical on-scene loads.
  • Foam Systems: Pierce’s integrated foam systems help firefighters perform beyond the capabilities of water alone. Whether it’s Pierce’s innovative Husky™ foam system or the Hercules™ compressed air foam system, these systems are designed to improve the fire-extinguishing capabilities of water, enhance on-scene efficiencies and promote water use reduction.
  • Pierce Ultimate Configuration (PUC™): An innovative apparatus solution designed to simplify firefighters’ actions and reduce unnecessary risk. The PUC eliminates the traditional pump house, is easier to operate, maximizes compartment space and simplifies service.
  • TAK-4® Independent Suspension: Independent Front Suspension (IFS), stops faster, corners better, improves handling, offers better ride quality and is far more maneuverable than any straight-axle truck on the road. Independent Rear Suspension (IRS) operates like IFS but provides power to the wheels. With the ability to add TAK-٤ T٣, the ١٠٠٪ mechanical steering system further improves control and mobility.
Customer Support

Pierce’s dealer network is the strongest in the fire industry and is always there to listen to what’s needed, provide guidance and offer support. Fire departments count on the Pierce Service Brigade, a coast-to-coast network of more than 600 factory-trained technicians, to ensure the right service is done at the right time. It’s only fair. Firefighters pour everything they’ve got into fighting fires. The Pierce team pours everything they’ve got into making sure a fire truck is ready to perform.

Experience

With more than 100 years of manufacturing experience, Pierce’s unwavering commitment to quality is not just a promise. It’s ingrained into who they are. Employees, from the assembly team to the unmatched dealer network, are driven to serve firefighters. Why? Because many Pierce team members are firefighters themselves.

Community

Commitment to performance extends beyond Pierce’s factory walls and into the communities served. A significant part of the Pierce legacy involves giving back to the community and the fire industry through contributions and events like the annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb event that takes place on the steps of Lambeau Field, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. All funds raised benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

The Pierce team doesn’t think of building fire trucks as just another job. That’s evident every time you walk through a Pierce facility and have a conversation with the people who build these rigs. Visit Pierce before you settle on your next apparatus.

The RollNRack Hose Management System

WORK SMARTER, SAFER & GET THE JOB DONE FASTER

A hose related back injury led Firefighter/Founder Javier Fernandez to design and patent tools that would prevent back injuries for all firefighters. Since back injuries are the number one cause of early duty disability retirement across the US, his goal was to exceed NFPA safety standards throughout the process and eliminate the potential for injuries during hose management. This system prevents loading hose while riding precariously on top of moving apparatus. The dangerous and antiquated practice has led to injuries and deaths.

• ROLLNRACK Tools cover:

• Firefighter Life Safety Initiative #1

• Exceed NFPA 1500 Safety Standards

• Highlighted in IFSTA’s Essentials 7

• Qualify for all Safety Grant Apps

• Prevent riding on rigs to load hose (load LDH with
two firefighters)

• ALL hose (up to 7.25”) handled ergonomically

• 100’ of LDH Drained & Rolled in under 30 seconds

• The Efficiency Package saves budget dollars and cuts scene
time in half

“The goal was to improve a firefighter’s quality of life by working smarter, more efficiently and being as safe as possible. Heavy rolls of LDH are rocked into or out of the units and loaded onto stationary rigs. No one rides on moving apparatus to load hose, ever.” Fernandez states.

The customizable system is portable and fully independent of the apparatus. With shrinking budgets, higher workman’s comp insurance, an aging work force, the current shortages in the volunteer ranks and expanding coverage, THE ROLLNRACK SYSTEM makes a difference. Videos show how they can help any department or company. “It’s the safest system on the market and has streamlined hose management for volunteer, career, industrial and military firefighters all over the world.” The ROLLNRACK SYSTEM is MADE IN THE USA and demonstrated at all shows attended.
