SEPTEMBER 16-20—The 1990 AVIATION FIREFIGHTER’S COURSE will be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Sessions include commercial and commuter aircraft familiarization, military and general aviation aircraft, firefighter i safety issues and rescue techniques, management and leadership styles in the fire service, implementing airport emergency plans, and the ABCs of aircraft firefighting. SEPTEMBER 18-20—The EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM WORKSHOP win be held in Pueblo, Colorado by the Chemical Manufacturers Association. Hands-on field exercises include basic tank car valve repair on actual rail cars, intermodel accident scenario, patching nonpressure containers, and the safe transferring of liquids and vapors from rail cars. SEPTEMBER 19—The video conference CHECK YOUR HOT SPOTS will be conducted by FEMA, the USFA, and the Wood Heating Education and Research Foundation from 11:00 a m. to 3:30 p.m. It will address the unsafe use of alternate heaters—a major cause of residential fires. It will be aired over FEMAs Emergency Education Network. A second conference on October 3 focuses on the proper technical installation and maintenance of wood stoves and fireplaces. SEPTEMBER 27-29—The 1990 HAZARDOUS MATERIALS CONFERENCE win be held in Virginia Beach, Virginia by the Virginia Association of Hazardous Materials Response Specialists and the Virginia Department of Emergency Services. Worksohop topics include safety officer roles and responsibilities, vehicle inspection regulations, toxicology for the nontoxicologist, prosecuting spillers and violators, and illegal drug labs—haz mats in disguise. OCTOBER 1-3—The 12th annual ADVANCED FIRE AND ARSON INVESTIGATORS CONFERENCE will

The seminar focuses on techniques to increase the effectiveness of still photography and videotape and features presentations by Eastman Kodak and Sony. OCTOBER 1-4—The 21st annual NEBRASKA FIRE AND ARSON INESTIGATION CONFERENCE will

OCTOBER 1-5—The sixth annual TECHNICAL RESCUE SEMINAR will be held by the American Search and Rescue Institute in Joshua Tree National Monument, California. OCTOBER 8-12—The course MEDICAL MANAGEMENT OF HAZARDOUS MATERIALS INCIDENTS will be held at George Washington University as part of the EMS degree program.
