The 1987 edition of the Emergency Respoons Guidebook, written by the U.S. Deapartment of Transportation, is now being distributed by American Label Co. More than 25 percent of this book is material that’s been updated and revised from the 1984 edition. The text identifies hazardous materials and details proper action, respoons, first-aid, and evacuation instructtons for chemical emergencies. “Flue and Chimney Fires” is a video training program produced by Media Resources Inc. It contains two programs for two audiences. Program 1 is a 20-minute videotape designed as a public information service and basic training program for firefighters. Program 2 is a ltl-minute videotape directed to firefighter operations. The National LP-Gas Association (NLPGA) has produced a new safety bulletin, Haz Mat Training Program (#211-87), for use in developing training programs that teach the successful handling of liquid-petroleum gas emergencies.

The bulletin provides an operative format for classroom and hands-on training in fire control tactics. Beginning with a review of the characteristics and physical properties of LP gas, the bulletin presents basic emergency control and fire control exercise data. Also provided are guidelines for conducting hands-on field training exercises and a written LP gas fire school exam.

The fourth edition of the “Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured” slide set, produced by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, is now being marketed and distributed by ORCO Inc. The set includes 2,684 color slides, which are mostly all action scenes, and a guide. Although it’s designed to complement the Emergency Care and Transportation of the Sick and Injured textbook, also published by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the slide set may be used with other emergency medical technician texts.

Both the slide set and the text follow the U.S. Department of Transportation National Standard Curriculum for the DOT course called “EMT-Basic.” The slide set serves as an aid for the EMT instructor and also may be used in nontechnical presentations to lay audiences.

The set includes the most current cardiopulmonary resuscitation standards from the American Heart Association and covers all essential material for basic life support training.
