Solberg Firefighting Foam Awarded Environmental Certification

Green Bay, WI — The Solberg Company announced today that its firefighting foam research and manufacturing operation in Bergen, Norway, has been awarded Eco-Lighthouse certification, a prestigious status that is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment.

Solberg is a leading supplier of firefighting foam concentrates and custom-designed foam suppression systems hardware and accessories globally. Eco-Lighthouse certification recognizes Solberg as a company working toward sustainability by implementing practices and processes which reduce impact on the environment and reduce overall enterprise costs.

Sæbøvågen Mayor Jon Askeland presented the framed Eco-Lighthouse certificate to Solberg general manager Dennis Kennedy and executives Jan Solberg and Thomas Svanevik, at a ceremony held at the Solberg operational site on April 14, 2011. Certification is granted through the Eco-Lighthouse Program, which is licensed by municipalities throughout Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

The Eco-Lighthouse qualification process, which took four months, involved key management and select employees at the Solberg operation. To begin the process, employees worked in collaboration with an independent consultant to conduct an environmental analysis of practices and procedures at the manufacturing facility there. They then formed “environmental teams” to develop action plans and execute solutions to fulfill Eco-Lighthouse certification requirements. Solberg’s environmental analysis and action plan focused on the following areas:

• Work environment
• Waste reduction
• Waste management
• Purchasing and resource management
• Energy consumption
• Water consumption
• Internal information
• Transportation

Throughout Solberg’s global operations, in Norway, Australia, and its new headquarters in the U.S., its people and its processes are committed to the goals of quality, service and safety — and to environmental responsibility. It’s a philosophy that enables Solberg to flourish while delivering ever greater innovation and value.

As an environmentally responsible company, Solberg is committed to leading the foam fire suppression industry with innovative and high performance products. We are unique in offering both traditional AFFF and AFFF/ARC firefighting foam concentrates, and environmentally sustainable fluorosurfactant and fluoropolymer-free foam products, which are an innovation in Class B firefighting foam.
