Fire & Safety Services Delivers First Sealegs Rescue Craft in North America

Fire & Safety Services delivered the first Sealegs® amphibious rescue boat in North America on December 13, 2010. The boat was a private purchase made by Anglesea Fire Company No. 1 located in North Wildwood, New Jersey. It was sold by Bill Russell and Sam Squire. The amphibious rescue craft is built to handle harsh terrain and can be launched independent of a boat ramp. The top speed on land is 6 mph, but once in the water it’s capable of speeds up to 48 mph. The ability to launch almost anywhere was a key factor in the fire department’s purchasing decision.

The rescue boat is 23’ 5” long and can carry 1540 pounds of payload. It has an Evinrude 150 hp outboard motor, auxiliary fuel tank, upgraded RIB Orca 866 fabric with a rub strip, rope handles, boarding ladder, rescue stretcher and two variable direction flood lights.

Sealegs International Limited is a public company located in New Zealand. Sealegs U.S. is based in Boston. Sealegs is listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange Main Board (NZX:SLG). Sealegs is the world’s largest manufacturer of amphibious boats; more than 450 boats have been sold in 25 countries. Although numerous Sealegs recreational craft have been sold in North America, the rescue boat purchased by Anglesea represents the first rescue craft sold by Sealegs in North America.
