Driver Education: How Effective?

Driver Education: How Effective?

Driver education hasn’t reduced the number of accidents, a preliminary study says. A $5.95 million study, funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the State of Georgia and DeKalb County, surveyed 18,000 high school students in the county. Some had driver ed courses, but they were not required for a license at age 16. The number of traffic violations were cut after the courses, but there was no effect on the number of accidents. Driver ed courses are much more extensive and organized than fire education efforts. Now can this raise doubts about the effectiveness of fire safety efforts?
