Fire Training Drill: My Fire Department 101: Engine Company Equipment

By Forest Reeder

This weekly series of firefighter training drills will allow the user to insert their own department-specific information on various topics and procedures for commonly used operations and equipment.  Consider these drills to be a form of fill-in-the-blank or pull-down menu quick quizzes designed to test your individual knowledge of your departments operations.

Set #1: Apparatus and Equipment (Know, Operate and Maintain)

Each fire department across the county share the same operational objectives, but the steps that we take and the tools that we use to achieve them can differ greatly. Water will come from the nozzle and ladders will reach their objectives, but the process and methods that make that happen are often not the same, even in departments that share common borders. In this series of drills, you will find a series of fill-in-the-blank questions where each company member will insert their own information specific to their department. Most drills will be set in a series, starting with knowledge of the equipment, the operation of the equipment, and concluding with maintenance of each item. Use your apparatus inventories, specifications and operators manuals to complete this information.
