AL Firefighter Dies During Training Exercise

ANNISTON, Ala. (ABC3340) – A Springville firefighter died during a training exercise Monday morning, according to the Calhoun County Coroner.

The training exercise took place at the Anniston Fire Training Center, an extension of the Alabama Fire College.

Authorities say the firefighter experienced a medical incident around 9:00 a.m. Monday and was taken to Anniston Regional Medical Center where he later died. MORE

According to the U.S. Fire Administration, Firefighter/Paramedic Jared Wayne Echols was participating in a recruit training exercise in Anniston. While at the training, he became ill and was immediately transported to the RMC Hospital in Anniston, where he passed away a short time later. Investigation into the incident continues. Firefighter/Paramedic Echols was also an active member of the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department in Springville. He was 35 years old.
