USFA Promotes Fireworks Safety

Fireworks are a beloved tradition on the 4th of July, but they also can be dangerous if the proper precautions are not taken. According to the United States Fire Administration (USFA), an estimated 7,000 people were treated in emergency rooms across the country for fireworks-related injuries in 2008. The National Fire Protection Association estimates that 30,100 fires were caused by fireworks in 2008 totaling $34 million worth of property damage.

The best and safest way to enjoy fireworks is to go to a public fireworks display and leave the lighting to the professionals. Learn more about fireworks safety from the USFA at www.usfa.dhs.gov/citizens/focus/fireworks.shtm.
