Two Killed in Bristol (CT) Building Fire

Two people were killed early Friday as fire spread through a building at 29 High St. in Bristol, adding to this month’s fire toll that includes four who were killed in an Enfield house fire on Dec. 10, reports The Hartford Courant (http://cour.at/1xxPH9o)

The Bristol fire was reported about 2 a.m. Firefighters took one person out of the two-story building, but the person died at the hospital, Fire Marshal Robert Grimaldi said. The identities of the victims were not immediately released, although Grimaldi said they were both adults who lived in separate apartments located above offices.

The fire was brought under control within 45 minutes and extinguished before sunrise, Grimaldi said. He said that there were working smoke detectors in the building, and that firefighters heard some of them sounding.

Detectives from the state police Fire and Explosion Investigation Unit are helping local police and fire investigators with the investigation. Deputy Fire Chief Mark McCarthy said the investigators were seeking warrants before they go inside the building.
