Susan Tellem and Dan Grody, partners at Tellem Worldwide, Inc. (http://www.tellem.com), a Malibu based public relations and social media agency, are featured speakers at the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Conference & Expo in Las Vegas, June 7-10 at the Mandalay Bay Hotel.
Tellem will moderate and be a panelist for “Working with the Media in Crisis Situations,” focusing on traditional media. Dan Grody, who heads the agency’s social media practice, will speak on using social media tools during a crisis. Two media representatives will round out the panel. They are Darcy Spears, chief investigative reporter for Las Vegas’ ABC affiliate KTNV-YV, and Tom Gorman, senior editor for the Las Vegas Sun.
“Figuring that they will just ‘wing it,’ many first responder organizations and safety companies have no crisis plan, media list or understanding of how to handle a press briefing in a crisis,” said Tellem. “That is never a smart move, but it even more foolhardy in today’s instant news cycle and proliferation of citizen news journalists. Twitter and YouTube can decimate a company in less than 24 hours. Better be ready with a plan of your own.”
