Railroad Fire Protection.

Railroad Fire Protection.

One of the perils of the Central Pacific Railroad has been the constant recurrence of fires in the snow sheds of the mountains, To prevent these, the managers of the road have now devised a complete telegraph system. An alarm box is placed at every mile, and patrolmen walk the track day and night, turning in a signal at each box, of safely or alarm, as the case may be. A tower has been built on a mountain KMXk) feet high, commanding a view of the line, by means of telescopes, from Blue Canon to the Summit. From this point the road Is constantly watched, and it is connected by telegraph with the fire train at Cisco, which is kept ready to start at an instant’s notice, for the place of conflagration.
