Propane Education and Research Council Teams with NFPA on Train-the-Trainer Seminars

Quincy, MA – NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) will hold a series of train-the-trainer programs for the 2002 edition of NFPA 54, National Fuel Gas Code and the 2001 edition of NFPA 58, Liquefied Petroleum Gas Code, during August, September, and October. Funded by a grant from the Propane Education & Research Council (PERC), the one-day seminars on each code will provide intensive training to instructors of industry personnel and other groups that require a strong knowledge and understanding of propane issues.

“The Propane Education & Research Council has provided NFPA with an excellent opportunity to offer trainers and key industry personnel the tools needed to properly instruct their staffs on virtually all uses of propane, from tank installation to appliance venting,” says Ted Lemoff, NFPA’s principal gases engineer. “I’m confident that these programs will not only maximize safe handling and use of propane, but also will ensure that NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 are more widely utilized to their full potential.”

In addition to formal presentations by NFPA staff and industry instructors, all seminars will include training techniques, group exercises, problem-solving, and question and answer segments. Attendees will also receive a comprehensive student workbook and a copy of NFPA 54 and NFPA 58. Everyone who completes the training will receive a certificate of completion with CEU credits and a CD-ROM (a $250 value) for future training use, which includes all the information covered in the seminar.

“We are pleased to support NFPA’s efforts and to help facilitate a process that will have a positive impact on the propane community,” says PERC President Roy Willis.

Train-the-trainer sessions for NFPA 54 and NFPA 58 are scheduled in each of the following U.S. cities: Cincinnati, OH, August 19/20; Raleigh, NC, August 26/27; Harrisburg, PA, September 10/11; Kansas City, MO, September 24/25; and Portland, OR, October 1/2. NFPA 54 will be covered on the first day and NFPA 58 on the second.

Registration fees are $50 for U.S. participants and $200 for non-U.S. participants for each seminar. After June 30, those interested in attending a train-the-trainer seminar can register by calling NFPA’s toll-free customer service number at 800-344-3555.
