NASFM Seeks Input on Residential Sprinkler Implementation Guide

By Mike Love

The National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) recently received a Fire Prevention and Safety grant to develop a free on-line guide to assist jurisdictions planning to implement a residential fire sprinkler requirement in their community. The guide will include identifying essential ingredients of successful sprinkler implementations; provide a compilation of documents that include policies, procedures, and checklists; and create a decision matrix that jurisdictions can follow as they are planning their implementation process.

It is highly desirable to learn of successful implementations in rural areas and small communities that may have even greater challenges acquiring the resources to manage an implementation and sustain the business processes of a residential fire sprinkler requirement. If you can directly provide materials or describe your experience that would assist other jurisdictions by improving a business process, solving a problem, increasing customer service; increasing involvement of stakeholders; finding a local champion; increasing consistency of inspections, etc. please contact me at mikelove44@msn.com.
